I'm baaaaack!
I've been down and out for the last few days with a nasty cold. Thankfully there's a doctor in the house and he's kept me well medicated with mandatory bed rest. DARN! Catching up on sleep after the marathon Sarah and I had was really, really, really great!
Of course that means that the adventures have been, well, slim. The last few days have been really rainy and haven't really been all that great for getting out of the house. That doesn't mean that we've been watching the drops drip off the windows either.
Sunday was all about rest. We all slept in (except for Don Jorge who went fishing with his buddies) and when we all got around to getting moving, Jorge and I went to the best place for roasted chicken and mutton in the city. Doña Chuchis invited one of her friends over and we had such a fun time at lunch we decided to head to the mall to have a coffee and maybe go see a movie.
The place was PACKED! Just so you know, Sunday is NOT the day to go to the mall. Of course we wanted to see Harry Potter, and amazingly there were tickets, so we bought 4 and decided to look around while we waited. I went to look for some music with Jorge and the ladies went off to do their thing. I found some great CDs and went back to get in line for the movie. After a long wait we got in and the movie was awesome! I think it's my favorite so far. Of course it was still a cultural experience because I got to read the Spanish subtitles (and YES, I do read them), so don't wimp out on me!
The next day we hung out at home, I totally slept trying to get to feeling normal again, and in the evening we played a game called Maratón which is like Trivial Pursuit, only harder, because it's based on Mexican culture and history. OUCH! Other than trying to pronounce all the freaking hard vocabulary words, the game was fun. I actually got 2nd place! We had a great time and were up until the wee hours of the morning playing.
Yesterday was a work day. I got up feeling better and decided to see what I couldn't get checked off my list of things to do for school, for my grant, and for Colombia. It worked out perfect because everyone else had things to do as well and we all just got things done. My friend Juan Carlos and his fiance came to drop of our invitation to their wedding and hang out for awhile. I thought it was a neat custom to actually hand deliver invites and it was good to get to spend a little time with them before the big day. After, Luis came and we played Maratón again. This time I wasn't playing around and I won! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Not bad for a game in Spanish about latino culture, huh?
Well, today has been pretty laid back. We're making plans to go to Salinas (the beach house) this weekend for some kayaking, fishing, and hammock lounging. It sounds right up my alley. It will be good to get away from the cell phone and computer for awhile.
I haven't heard from anyone here on the message board for days, so reach out and say HI, would ya?
More later...
