Wow...where to begin. It's been a marathon of a day. It started with getting out of Mexico City as quickly as possible. We hit the bus station about 8:30 and were out of town by 9. Thankfully we went in the nicest bus you can buy, which had seats that reclined into beds, free drinks, movies, and only 20 people per bus. Needless to say, there was enough room to spread out. It was a relaxing trip EXCEPT for the kids that were right behind us. I don't know why I have such horrible luck with kids that like to kick sitting right behind me. It was not fun until he passed out. YEsssssss!
Once we got to Xalapa Gaby was there to meet us and we headed for the house after some introductions. We were very warmly greeted and sat right down for a lunch of steak, picaditas (like an open faced enchilada) and black beans. Deeeeelicious! To celebrate the occasion, Don Jorge opened a wonderful red wine (much to Sarah's delight).
After clearing the table, we headed to Xico, a small town about 30 minutes outside the city. They have a waterfall there that is incredible. I have some video I'd like to share of the place, the canyon is incredible. You can see the stills Sarah took in the photo album section under La Cascada de Taxolo, Xalapa. It was breathtaking, not to mention the location was used for the movie Romancing the Stone. We took tons of pictures and had a very enjoyable time.
From there we went to another town on the way back for some ice cream called Coatepec. It was such a cute little town. We got buttered ice cream (I know it sounds gross, but it was really good, flavored with cinnamon and other spices, had kind of a pumpkin taste according to Sarah). More jokes, and laughs as we walked around the town.
Finally we headed to one of my favorite restaurants in Xalapa, La Churreria del recuerdo. They have some of the most authentic dishes I've had the luck to eat here. Not only that, they have the most enormous and exquisite churros you could hope to eat. We had a small snack and saved the rest of the room for the churros! Yummmmm!
Tomorrow is going to be up to Veracruz to play at the beach and see the sights. Hope you all are well and more when my eyes aren't closing on their own!
