Hey all...
I know it's been awhile since my last blog, but I've been away from my cell phone, a TV, and yes, as hard as it is to believe, my computer!
You may be asking yourself what kind of place would be so incredible to keep me away from my normal technological distractions.... Salinas is it. It's a small 3 room beach house (for lack of a better descriptor) that Don Jorge and his family has perfected over the years.
We arrived Saturday morning and got right to the business of relaxing. Well, right after we got everything unpacked and cleaned up. I spent almost the entire day in the hammock, sleeping as the breeze blew in and slowly rocked me to sleep. It was perfect and was a great way to spend the day after lots of partying with Tavo for his birthday the night before.
Around 4 in the afternoon Marco and his family showed up to spend the weekend with the fam. It's always fun seeing them and I got to meet the newest member of their family, Sam. He's 8 months old and was a doll. Totally well behaved, smiling constantly, and totally soaking it all in he is such a contrast to his older brother Marlon who never stops! I know that I've been on vacation long enough now because I really enjoyed having them around! It's interesting to see how kids are raised here in comparison to home.
The next day was all about the lagoon! Jorge and I grabbed one of the double kayaks, strapped it in Don Jorge's 14 foot aluminum boat, and headed off. I wish I would have had some photos for you, but my camera died. =( Imagine being in one of those jungle scenes from the Discovery Channel. We saw cranes, crabs, all kinds of fish, and pelicans. It was sweet to paddle around the little islands, in between the trees and roots hanging over the lagoon. While Jorge and I were exploring, Marco, Don Jorge and Marlon were fishing. It was awesome to see little Marlon (who's 4) catch 2 fish all on his own. He was hilarious doing his little victory dance and informed everyone that he was the champion of the world. =)
To celebrate Doña Chuchis made some traditional donuts that you normally don't get to have until Christmas. They are my FAVORITE and it was super nice of her to take the time to do it, especially in the heat of that area. It's a killer!
We took our time coming home and stopped off in Veracruz for a popsicle. I had a peanut flavor one, YUM. We got home around 11:30, unpacked and I passed out. All in all it was an awesome weekend and it was well worth the heat and time in the car.
More Later!
