Hi all...Sarah and I are here in Coyoacan with Jorge seeing the sights. I'm sitting in front of a Windows 98 machine trying my best so please be patient with missing apostrophes and misspellings.
Today was all about starting off on the right foot. So we made sure to keep both feet tucked in bed as long as humanly possible. No groaning now, we got up at 9: 30 pacific standard, which was still pretty good considering that we had NO sleep the night before!
To make up for our EXTREME laziness, we went and ate. We hit the local Sanborns (just imagine a really high class Walgreens with a restaurant). The food was great and Sarah actually got a menu in ENGLISH. Wahoooo!
After that we headed to the Museo Nacional de Antroplogia( the national anthropological museum). It was HUGE. We were treated to a show from the voladores of Papantla. Check back next week, I took some video on my phone because it would take paragraphs to explain what the heck that is. Google it if you just are dying to know.
The museum has a huge collection of artifacts from native cultures from all over North America (even the Clovis people from Wenatchee!). To give you an idea of the inventory, we spent 3 hours and almost got through half the exhibits. It was incredible! One of the things I liked the best was seeing how Teotihuacan would have looked if it had been preserved over the thousands of years since its heyday. Pretty impressive!
After we couldnt get any more information in our heads, we decided to head for Coyoacan. Its a suburb of Mexico known for its arts, crafts, and well, hippies. It was packed (its Sunday, of course) but we got some OK deals on some crafts that were pretty incredible. We didnt make it to Frida Kahlos house because it was closed by the time we got there which was a bummer.
We had an interesting dinner next to the park, and now were just waiting to be picked up by our super loyal and super safe taxi driver Josafat. Cool guy and soccer nut (Mexico won, by the way, 6 to 0).
Hope all is well and keep the messages coming, its fun to keep up and see how things are going for you.
Sarah and Aaron
