Hey!
Well Sarah made it safe and sound. Check her Message Board entry for more. Even though we were all wiped from the early hour traveling (Jorge and I left at 11PM to get to the airport at 4AM, and Sarah left at 8PM to get in around 6AM), we still managed to see quite a bit today.
After checking into the hotel, which is nice, but in a rather interesting part of town, we headed downstairs to the travel agency to see what we could find out about tours. There was one leaving just a few hours later so we went.
Our first stop was the Palacio de las tres culturas (the palace of the three cultures) which had pyramids from the prehispanic period, a cathedral from the colonial period, and modern day office space all on the same site. It wasn't the most exciting, but it was interesting.
From there, we went to the Basilica de Guadalupe. That's where Mexico's patron saint is honored. It was really interesting. There were quite a few people and we learned and saw quite a bit that explained a lot about Mexico's religious past and present.
From there we went to a place where they showed us some arts and crafts. Then they tried to sell us some arts and crafts at really high prices. Not my favorite part of the day.
My favorite part was when we actually made it to the pyramids just outside of Mexico City called Teotihuacan. It was incredible. The funny thing was it was my 3rd time, and yet I still was fascinated by the ruins and what was all around us. We climbed to the top of the largest pyramid and took pictures as we caught our breath. Incredible!
Now we're off to get some rest and then head to a restaurant that rotates atop one of the tallest buildings here in the city. It should be well worth it!
Keep writing and more later!
