Yay shopping!! That was the theme for today. We headed out on foot today to a shopping district called Parian just a few blocks from the hotel and city center. It is a lovely collection of shops that sell all sorts of cool things from food to jewelry. I was particularly enchanted with the local pottery called Talavera and after buying a place setting at one shop, the man helping us offered to take us on a tour of the place just across the street where they make it all. It was really neat to see the process from start to finish watching the craftsmen at their work. Pretty shortly we had to make a trip back to the hotel to drop some packages since I was loading up on the ceramics. Then we decided to check out Los Sapos, a kind of hippie/antique outdoor market. Again it was not too far from the city center. I can't believe how beautiful the weather was here yesterday and today. It was a really great place to be walking and spending lots of time outside. I'm really thankful Aaron was able to translate for me and smooth the way for interacting with merchants. Every person we interacted with for an extended time (the whole trip) complimented his grasp of spanish.
I was excited to go back to the Parian so we went back for more shopping fun. For lunch Aaron wanted to go to one of his favorite haunts from being at the UDLA so we took a taxi to la Noria to this great taco place called Punto y Coma. If you've never had tacos Arabe, you're really missing out. Come to Mexico! Yummy!
After lunch we walked over to a nearby mall that is huge and wandered the shops before giving up for resting at the hotel. Now it's time to relax, pack and get ready to exit this beautiful paradise. =(
