I'm back (sniff, sniff, hack hack)!
Thankfully Sar took the wheel with the blog updates today so I could take a quick nap and try to get back to "normal."
We spent the second half of our day here in the city center, seeing the sights and really just hopping from one church to another. To break up the monotony we nosed around some shops and bought some gifts to take home.
Our first stop was the Cathedral of Puebla. It's HUGE. It's BEAUTIFUL. It's tower was closed and we didn't get to climb. WAAAAAAH! The view is incredible and I was bummed I didn't get to share that with Sarah. Not to worry, we'll try again tomorrow and see what happens.
The interior was enormous with at least 8 different side alters dedicated to different patron saints, with the main altar in the front. The middle of the sanctuary was quite small because 1/2 of it was taken up by a huge pipe organ and a separate area for the choir.
From there we walked up the main drag to see what kind of shopping trouble we could get into and it was surprising to see the large number of people out on a Thursday afternoon with the kids.
We hit two other churches on our way through the city center. They were all different and that made it interesting, the old adage that if you've seen one you've seen them all doesn't apply in this case. Hopefully the pics will show you how different they are.
The clock read nearly 8PM when we hit the hotel lobby and Sar and I talked about what to do next. We decided that we wanted to have a little "gringo break" and head to the nicest shopping mall in the city to do some more shopping and maybe see a movie.
What we didn't plan on was seeing HARRY POTTER! Surprisingly, the tickets weren't sold out for the 9PM show (although they were sold out before and after) which we couldn't understand. Not that we even paused to consider why, we just snatched them up. The movie didn't disappoint and it was a nice way to feel like we were doing something instead of trying to find some place "cultural" from 9-midnight!
We think we know how we got tickets. Here's the going theory: The Mexican soccer B team was playing in the America's Cup until about 9:30, so there weren't as many people that wanted to go to that showing. We could hear the viewers screaming as they scored 2 goals from a bar across the mall as we were waiting to get into the theater.
Now we're here in the hotel making plans for tomorrow (Sarah's last full day in Mexico ).
More Later!
Aaron
