The Garden Route finale
(Like London buses there are no postcards for weeks then several will arrive at once)
We arrived in Cape Town on 6 January after a memorable journey along the Garden Route.
It has been a blur of beautiful and empty sandy beaches, rocky headlands, yellowwood forests and fynbos, stunning walks, marine wildlife, very wealthy holiday retreats like Knysna and Cape St Francis, illegal settlements made of wood and corrugated iron and finally the southernmost point of Africa at Cape Agulhas.
Talking of Cape Agulhas, the attached photo album includes proof of what I always suspected, Angela’s backside is wide enough to sit astride two oceans!
We’ve met very friendly and hospitable fellow campers everywhere we’ve been, even though the campsites have been packed due to the holiday season and everyone has been living on top of each other!
As you may imagine we’ve had the odd glass of wine overlooking the ocean, in locations that had they been in the UK we’d have spent the rest of our savings just getting through the front door!
As we’ve neared Cape Town the traffic has got heavier but nothing compared to home and the food available in the supermarkets has got progressively better in terms of variety and quality (and sadly more expensive).
Our next adventure has been Cape Town, the wine routes and the Landrover repairs, but that’s for another postcard.
