Hi All
A quick update from the Indian Ocean coast south of Durban.
The fire that nearly toasted us and most of Howick turned out to be the worst in living memory, killing several people and loads of livestock and destroying houses, farms, forests and settlements across the KwaZulu Natal Midlands.
The day after, it poured down with rain and everyone breathed a sigh of relief as the fire risk was downgraded. We got soaked packing the car and trailer as the rain turned to sleet! We left for Durban in another rainstorm and gale force winds which continued all the way to our 3 night stop at Rocky Bay, near Scottsburgh, on the Indian Ocean.
The weather was so bad that we checked in to a chalet instead of camping! The intention now is to head down the Eastern Cape coast in the direction of the Cape. Whale watching here at Rocky Bay is nearly impossible thanks to the huge seas and breaking surf, unless a whale leaps out the water and waves to us you won't see them!
