On Thursday 25th June we headed off to the highlands of Scotland and stopped at St Andrews, home of the famous Golf Course and also the Castle and Cathedral. The weather has been beautiful since we left Letchworth, they are having a heatwave here in the UK, 5 days of mid 20's temperatures....if they only new what hot was.
St Andrews was very busy as it was Graduation day at the University, we sure have the timing down pat, we managed to see what we wanted to see and headed off to our accomodation at Pitlochry.
At the Birchwood Hotel we were welcomed by "Lurch" (the manager )as he was known due to his being right beside you whenever you needed him, don't know where he came from he would just appear, but it was a lovely hotel only more stairs......at least we were staying for 3 nights so had a break from tackling the stairs with the luggage.
Friday we went up to Queens View, and what a wonderful view. Cruised the High Street and managed to spend some of our hard earned dollars.
The following day we went up to Blair Castle @ Blair Atholl, not to far, this is a working Castle so has a lot of memorabilia, oozed history, also lots of walking as there is a huge wood and garden. Whilst we were in the woods I had the unfortunate experience of touching a stinging nettle, much to David's amusement. My finger was very painful but Sheila managed to find me a Dock leave which did sooth it somewhat, I did have to resort to painkillers when we got back.
Drove to a lovely little lake after dinner which had swans and ducks, was very peaceful. Everything is so green here and the vegetation very dense.
Looking forward to tomorrow as we are heading off to Loch Ness.
