We woke up and had breakfast on this cute little cafe in San Fran. We reloaded the biked onto the car, and headed across the Bay Bridge towards Yosemite. I am not sure what happened, but I had an enormus amount of sinus pressure and had to have MB relieve me from my driving duties. I closed my eyes to take a nap, and woke up on a series of dirt roads. James deceided subey needed some fun too and took us on 25 miles of dirt roads to reach the south enterance of Yosemite.
The enterance James took us to was two hours from our campsite. Because we were there on a Friday all of the easily accesible sites were all reserved. This sent us to Yosemite Creek Campground, better known as 'Camp Penetration'. To access this campground it required four miles of subey single track, and fording a river to arrive in a rock garden of a campground. We made the best of the situation, set up camp and headed out for a hike.
We drove away from the valley floor because we were going to be there tomorrow. We stopped at Olmstead point which is named for the designer of Yosemite. Olmstead also designed centeral park in New York City. We then continued to do a short hike to a high alpine lake called 'Dog Lake'
It is a three mile hike that we started at 6:45. The first section was steep and wide. The Lake at the top mirrored the surroundings which was very cool. I freaked out MB by telling her we had to keep talking to make our presence known. Considering we were walking at dusk in the middle of nowhere in bear country.
When we left the lake it was already almost dark. I had one headlamp for the two of us. MB picked up two softball sized stones for protection and we started decending in the dark. Ms. Long Legs was turbo stepping down the mountain compaining that she didn't have enough light because I was at a light jog trying to keep up.
We returned to camp penetration and burned the box of wood that has been taking up valuable space in the car since Yellowstone. Literally. We enjoyed the amazing starts and both saw the same shooting star. Another moment I will always remember from this trip. Very Cool.
