Day 15. Today we drove from Mission Beach to Newell Beach near Mossman. We drove via Cairns, although managed to keep to the outskirts. The scenery all the way was beautiful, particularly when we got onto the Captain Cook Hway, which meanders along the coast with stunning beach and rain forest views. The farming country of banana and sugar plantations is lush. Everyone along the route appeared to have mown any grass within sight of the road. We weren't sure whether this was for us or royalty was expected! Perhaps just the North Queensland Cowboys?
Newell Beach is a charming backwater between Port Douglas and the Daintree. Our CP is right on the beach and we have a sugarcane plantation at our backs. There are misty rainforest mountains in the distance. Warm and humid. Lovely!!!!!
There are people swimming on the beach but one has to be alert for crocodiles. Two were caught only a month ago here at Newell Beach.

Paul Robinson We visited there on a fly into Cairns trip several years ago. Lovely drive along the coast. Don't forget to walk on the beach at Cape Tribulation. What a fantastic holiday north you are having.
Judith Yes we did. It is a truly beautiful part of the country.
