Day 21. Shared a meal last night at the Laura pub with a couple from 1770, near Bundaberg. Can you guess where the name comes from? The meal of barramundi was sadly only average.
Our day started earlier than planned when some of the locals returned home and continued the party! They kept at it from 1.30am to after 3.30. Another local told me this is commonplace. If there is a next time at Laura, we will stay at the pub CP.
However, the day improved immeasurably when we visited the rock art galleries at Split Rock. They exceeded our expectations and are very much worth the climb up to reach them. One large tourist who made the climb astounded us by volunteering that she was playing Scrabble on her iPad, rather than admiring the rock art. All she could do was sit after the climb. How sad is that!
Then on to Cooktown. The van park, called surprisingly Cooktown Caravan Park, is tucked away under Mount Cook and is a bush delight. The owners are most welcoming.
