Day 3 - After sleep that was not too bad considering how warm the room was, we had a good breakfast, left Vougeot and hit the road for the remainder of the journey to Joucas. Our home for the next week. The journey was long and consisted of many traffic jams and queues through the toll gates. If you drive this trip, try to go earlier than the end of July and earlier in the day to avoid the rest of the holiday traffic. After 6 hours or so (the journey should only had been 4 1/2 hours); time began to mean nothing after periods a little movement forward interspersed with long stretches that left you wondering where all the traffic had gone. Finally we came off the A road and headed towards Coustellet and reached the SuperU to get some food and supplies. Namely wine, cheese, bread and fruit on the whole.
Arriving at the Gite we were warmly welcomed and shown around. It was a pleasant change to move into rooms that were at least 10 or more degrees cooler than outside, which had reached 36C.
Supper eaten and with glass of wine in hand we now sit outside in more bearable temperatures of the evening, helped by a cooling breeze, listening to the chorus of cicadas in the trees around us. The place has a lovely pool with a terrace that overlooks the valley below. Tomorrow the relaxing holiday properly starts with a trip to L'Isle sur Sorgue for the market and Gordes.
The picture is of the terrace and infinity pool. Lovely. My destination tomorrow afternoon with any luck.
