Today we woke up to a very windy and cold morning. The weather up to today has been gorgeous for exploring Annapolis but wind is necessary for sailing so you have to except the cold that comes with it.
What we hadn't counted on was the wind driving the water out of the bay and in addition to the low tide, has caused the keel to sink into the mud until the tide comes up!
So, with time on our hands Marty Muench drove us all over to Eastport for breakfast.
When we returned, Erica and I Topped off the water tanks after learning how to operate the valves to the various tanks.
Erica needed some gloves so Peter drove her into town and bought several pair of gloves for the boat. Marty and I turned on the heat and watched a movie called "Body of Lies".
For lunch, Erica, Mica, Marty and I all went over to Davie's for lunch. I had the chili again which was great on a cold day.
Back at the boat, it was looking like we would finally get underway about 4pm at high tide. The water was still low but the tide had raised the boat keel out of the mud.
Finally at 4:45 pm, we cast off. There was a couple of times as we made our way out the channel that we could feel the boat slow as the keel hit the bottom. But we made it.
Soon we had the mainsail up with two reefs and the jib about half way out. We were sailing!
After, Peter prepared pizza and hot soup for everyone, Dale and I relieved Marty and Erica at 9pm and had a chilly but pleasant watch with Dale taking care of the navigation. It's so nice to use the auto pilot for steering, leaving us to better monitor ship traffic in the bay.
