Hello to all my friends and relatives. I'm writing to you from Annapolis, MD.
It's been three months since my last sailing adventure. (Sounds like a confession!). My current assignment is on a 53 foot Swan which is a beautiful Finnish design.
The boat is called Mezzaluna and it spends the summer here in Annapolis and winters in the Caribbean. The hurricane season is over and it's time for charter boats like the Mezzaluna to return to their Caribbean playground.
I arrived here on the 2nd of November along with the rest of the crew. We have two Canadians: Marty, an ex stock broker turned farmer/sailer and Erica, a pharmacist taking a year long sabbatical from med school. Then there's Dale, ex Navy quartermaster. Our skipper/owner, Peter, is an ex para trooper in the British army. And then there's me.
I took a taxi from the Annapolis bus station to the marina and Peter met me and walked me over to the Mezza Luna. Then we went over to a little market/cafe and had a sandwich and got better acquainted. While we were there the other three arrived from the airport.
After eating and getting acquainted we all went back to the boat and stowed all our gear. Then Peter settled us all down in the spacious salon and worked out what we all wanted to cook so that he could develop a shopping list.
About 7pm Peter took us all out to dinner and drinks. That was very nice and quite unexpected. By the time we got back to the boat, I was exhausted and fell straight to sleep.
