This morning I walked up to Leeward Market and had a bagel with cream cheese and coffee while I checked my email.
When I got back to the boat, it was decided that Dale and Marty would spend the day in Washington doing some sightseeing and Erika and I would work on the boat.
The skipper, Peter, wanted the forepeak storage area completely emptied, cleaned and re-stowed. We also had to cart the inflatable dingy to the boat from a nearby storage area.
We used one of the foredeck halyards to winch out the heavy stuff. This was hard work and Erika really put her back onto it. Unfortunately, I found out later that she pulled a muscle. I offered her some anti inflammatory medicine that I had with me and was actually surprised that my back was not needing meds.
The next task was to run out 50 feet of chain from the bow anchor and cut it off with bolt cutters (not easy) and clean it to be used for a spare stern anchor chain.
By the time we accomplished all this, Peter was quite satisfied with our effort and about 2.30pm, we headed for town for a much deserved lunch and cold beer.
We found a sidewalk cafe called Armadillos. We both ordered the clam chowder and grilled cheese sandwich combo. The clam chowder was excellent ... some of the best I ever tasted and I knew I would be back for more if I had a chance.
After lunch we strolled around looking for an Internet cafe where we could check our email.
Finally, as the sun started to lower in the sky and a chill started to fill the air, we made our way back towards the boat. On our way back we passed a really neat looking "yachtie" bar called the "Boat Yard" and had to check it out. A guy who looked like a throwback to the 60s was playing some great songs on his guitar.
Back at the boat, the conversation turned to politics, and being the only conservative, I took quite a bashing but I held my ground and defended liberty and freedom!
As I finally laid down in my bunk, I realized that I was exhausted and fell fast asleep to the creaking of the mooring lines.
