Today Peter informed us that we would plan to leave after noon tomorrow but I hold no stock in this as our departure date has changed daily for a week now. Not his fault of course. It's a challenge this time of year to get a three day window to get out of the Chesapeake and across the Gulf Stream. It seems that it's either too windy or not windy enough.
But, just in case we were leaving tomorrow, after breakfast I gathered my dirty clothes and set off to do laundry for myself and Peter.
After putting the clothes away, Peter wanted me to take the old water pump apart and clean the armature so he could stow it away as a spare. I was skeptical that this cleaning would restore any additional life to the motor.
So when I took it apart I was looking for a reason for it to stop working to begin with. What I found was that the brushes had reached the end of their useful life. Without new brushes, the unit was useless other than a source of spare parts for the working unit. But chances are that the new pump will work fine until its brushes are also used up.
After that I headed up to the Leeward Market to do some writing and check my email. I was pleasantly surprised to get a very encouraging email from the application that I submitted for the sailing instructor job in Greece.
Her name is Christine Shulz and her only concern was that it would be difficult to meet me prior to hiring. But I wrote back and assured her that we could work something out. Later when everyone else went off for dinner, Marty and I went on line and checked out this place. It just looks idyllic. Marty kept saying: "Look at this!, wow!" Now every time, I have gone to town or to the Boatyard, I have past Ruth's Chris steak restaurant. And every time I have passed by, I have promised to treat myself to a mouth watering steak. Tonight was the night!
I must say that it was the best steak I have ever tasted. I ordered a glass of Merlot and the smallest steak on the menu, along with a side of mashed potatoes.
The steak comes out still sizzling on a very hot plate and is really too hot to eat right away. But every bite was simply a mouth watering taste sensation complimented perfectly by the wine and mashed potatoes. The bill came to $60 which is hard to justify other than for a very rare treat.
By the time I got back to the boat, it was only 9pm but everyone except Marty was in bed already and that seemed like a good idea.
