It's been a week now and the Mezza Luna is ready for sea. Unfortunately the sea isn't ready for us. The weather has deteriorated to a tropical depression on our route and now we are looking at this Saturday for a departure date.
Peter is going stir crazy with the waiting but none of the crew has any deadlines to worry about. We were all given the day off and after breakfast, I went off to explore the Naval Academy.
The grounds of the Academy are beautiful with tree lined streets and large open areas.
To get in, all you have to do is show your picture ID. As you walk through the pedestrian gate there is a bronze sculpture of the Naval Academy Mascot (a goat). There is a nice monument that describes the Battle of Midway.
I made it over to the museum in Preble Hall and was very impressed with the full size still life models of sailors shooting a canon or eating in the mess or navigating.
After the museum, I walked a short distance past the admin building guarded by long-silent canon and over to John Paul Jones Tomb. The tomb is very large, ornate and solemn. An amazing tribute to the Father of our American Navy.
By this time it was well into the afternoon and I craved food and drink. So I found my way out the gate and back to the Harbor where I found a nice hot dog place. I ordered a polish sausage to go and was heading for a shady spot to eat when I spotted Erika having a beer at Armadillos. So I joined her, ordered a beer and we brought each other up to date on the day's happenings.
Then we walked to the other side of town to our favorite coffee shop and ordered coffee and desert and checked our email.
We then made it over to Davie's Pub to meet up with the rest of the crew. The manager had promised to fix roast beef especially for Peter because he made such a big fuss about missing it yesterday on its normally scheduled day! Erica and I were not hungry so we just ordered beer.
Then back to the boat for a nite cap and conversation and the end to another gorgeous fall day in Annapolis.
