The Simple Life
New Years day very refreshed we hit the T Gardens about 12:30pm. It was complete carnage. It had opened at 7am it was rammed to the rafters with the die-hards from Fat Boy Slim the night before (and a wasted John who was given short shift - cheeky git), there was not a square inch of space and it was literally impossible to get served at the bar. As the Jamester would say brullianT. We left there about 2:30pm slightly inebriated for Field Day, a big outdoor dance event for 30,000 people in the city. By this point it was 45 degrees outside, completely mental heat it was like being in an outside sauna the sweat was dripping from us. Within 30 minutes Roger Sanchez was playing at the main stage, our hair was scrapped back, make-up sweated off and we were soaked from the water canons they were shooting out from the stage. Very attractive! We were having a ball though - sweltering heat, hot Aussie bodies everywhere, top tunes playing. We hooked up with Ryan, an Aussie boy Lynne worked with at ING and he bumped his mates to spend the day with us. Well, who can blame the boy hahahhahaah...... We split our time between the electro stage where our favourite Bang Gang DJ's were playing and the main stage where all the big name DJ's were. We actually accosted the main Bang Gang DJ Ajax for a while, bagged ourselves some free drinks vouchers and found out he'd be in London in May, who-hoo.
At 11pm as the event finished we made our way to another of Scott's clubs, LadyLux in Kings X. We danced our asses off there till almost 5am when finally we gave in and retired to bed. Well Lynne retired to bed for a few hours Lyndsay ended up in Graeme's talking crap and dancing and generally keeping him awake all night. I think he was gonna relocate by the next morning!
Lynne joined them in the afternoon though and before we knew it the drinks were flowing again and we were getting showered and ready to meet some of the Irish girls in the T Gardens, yes we'd eventually befriended some of the girls. What was meant to be a sociable few turned into several and it was 2am when we staggered home again.
The next 3 days were spent dying, lets just say the excesses of Xmas and NY were upon us with a vengeance. Feeling faint, sick, and taking headaches and dizzy spells were some of the symptoms we suffered! Well let's just say we weren't surprised it hadn't happened sooner - we know you agree mothers! No rest for the wicked though, we had to drag ourselves into the city most days for shopping (essential to stock up on Aussie designer labels), to sort out our tickets with STA and to lunch with Oor Gavinda.
Before we knew it, it was Friday and our last weekend in Sydney was upon us. Unfortunately most people were skint after Xmas and NY but we still planned to go out with a bang. We started off with a few drinks in the T Gardens, it would be rude not to on our last Friday night. With Scottie McHottie wanting to see us before we left we met up with him and a few mates in the Paddington Inn. Ryan also joined us and the four of us ended up in a very mortagious state in the World Bar in Kings X. We were both feeling very smug at this point - here were 2 gorgeous, very well dressed, clued up boys fawning over us. "These are the type of boys we should be with" was quoted quite a few times throughout the night.
We all headed back to McHottie's for a party and with barely a few hours sleep found ourselves back on the cider with Ryan in Penkivil Street early Saturday afternoon. Marty and Lloyd also joined us, with Marty bringing us in bacon butties and begging us to eat! What'd you mean eat? That gets in the way of drinking hahahhahaah. We crashed out for a few hours around teatime and were ill by the time we had to get ready for our Saturday night partying. There wasn't a lot of people out - Marty and the Mentalist crew and Ryan was invited later on after Lynnith had established neither Liam or Brian were out hahahhahaah.....
Drinks in the T Gardens almost killed us and at one stage Linz tried to sneak off home but Marty caught her at the door and it was real tears in her eyes as he handed her another vodka! But we soldiered on and made it to Kink, we perked up in there somewhat with the tunes rocking. Par for course we left there in the early hours for the Courthouse. Who-hoo a lot of the Irish boys were out, none of the head wreckers thankfully. Alan was there though; remember the one who was on a break from his girlfriend?! Well he was on another break and Linz had to spend a lot of her time covering for Lynne with Ryan whilst she flirted outrageously with Alan. "It was time I played the boys" was Lynne's excuse and she was sticking to it.
We drank and danced in the Courthouse, headed to Gilligan's (a 24 hour gay bar) where we stumbled upon Princess Fagan, then headed to T2 for more dancing. By 8:30am Lynne gave in and headed home for a few hours sleep. Lyndsay was hardcore and kept on going right through. Home by 10am quick shower change then back to the T Gardens! She felt it was safer to keep going rather than stop and feel the pain she was gonna be in!
Lynne joined her early afternoon. She was a pretty picture staggering up to the T Gardens with a bottle of cider in hand, a t-shirt with "crack w****" printed across the front (tongue in cheek!) and hair and make-up barely touched up from the night before. Who did she bump into but Mark, Micky and Keith (3 of Liam's best mates). They were very amused at her having to hang onto a lamp-post for support and looking slightly more dishevelled than the classy Lynne they first met hahahhahaah...... I wonder why Liam wouldn't answer his phone or come to meet her in the T Gardens later hahahhahaah.....
We spent the whole day in the T Gardens - we were there until closing at 12pm! There was jukebox music, a live band, more jukebox music, dancing, and a whirlwind of socialising with Brian's crowd, some of the original crowd, the Mentalist crew, Alan's crowd, the girls and several drinks. As if that wasn't enough we headed home changed out of our flip flops, essential for entry to East's, a 24 hour bar at the Junction, and met up with Alan and a few of the other boys. By 4am Lynne jumped in a taxi homebound, Linz stayed out for another hour but was also home tucked up in bed by 5am. It was a round of applause from the Irish as we had safely secured our 3-day bender, 57 hours in total we believe! I'm sure there was talk of erecting a plaque in the Junction hahahhahaah. And the plan to go out with a bang was secured when we heard that 6 of the lads didn't make work and 4 got sacked and rumour has it one got dumped too. Ah, we told you you'd live to regret the day you ever met us...........!
The next day we were like zombies, the flat was a complete s*** tip and we hadn't started any packing. Everything got left as we lay on the couch dying. Macker appeared with a McDonald's for us and the 3 of us crashed out for hours. Eventually we had to force ourselves in the shower for our leaving drinks with the gay boys; we certainly weren't looking or feeling our best as we headed to the beachfront restaurant at Bondi.
It was a nice dinner though as we regaled the boys with our weekend antics and reminisced over all the good times we'd had. We went to the Beach Road Hotel after for a few drinks and eventually at 11pm a teary farewell was made with promises to keep in touch and London reunions.
Up at the crack of dawn the next day we ran around like maniacs tidying the flat, packing, collecting our tickets, closing our bank accounts, handing our keys into the letting agency. We were supposed to move out that day but luckily the bairns were still there so we didn't have to worry about finding a bed for the night. Well, so we thought.....
As Lyndsay joined Marty, Gavan, Cecilia and a few of the girls at the T Gardens Lynne started her preparations for dinner with her Liam! Glutton for punishment..... Surprise, surprise things didn't go quite to plan when 2 Irish girls appeared - they were moving into the flat that day. Oops!!!!!! Dinner scrapped, Lynne met Liam at his and headed to the T Gardens instead. A few drinks were had, nothing major, goodbyes were said and Lynne found a home for the night at Liam's. Let's face it that was always on her agenda hahahhahaah...... Linz's saviour came in the form of McHottie, yeah he was turning out to have probably been the nicest boy - no good now in the last few weeks huh? But they ended up drinking till crazy o clock and barely catching a few hours sleep again.....
As Lyndsay died back at Penkivil Street Lynne bid farewell to Liam and made her last walk from the Junction to the apartment via Three Steps (our bacon roll café). We finished the rest of our packing with a few hours to spare then headed onto Bondi Road for some lunch with Lisa and Gavan.
Before we knew it we were in a taxi with Gavan headed to the airport. We checked in smoothly, wandered around the airport then eventually said a teary goodbye to Gavan. After a year of Aussie weather, road-trips, city living, laughter, tears, fun, parties, temping, new friendships, new men and tantrums and traumas our stay in the land Down Under was over. It was a very bizarre feeling - sad, not ready to go, yet ready to go, excited about our month of travels ahead, excited about returning to London, missing the Irish.........
