The Simple Life
OCTOBER
WEEK ONE
And so as October began so did a new, unplanned chapter of our lives in Sydney. Up bright and early we headed off to the Furnished Property Group office at Bondi Junction to pick up the keys to our new pad. Back at Surry Hills it took several attempts to hail down a taxi to take us to Penkivil Street with our 400 bags!! How the hell we'd managed to accumulate that amount of stuff we'll never know Hahahhahahah......
We spent the afternoon unpacking and were most disappointed when we realised our bank balances would not allow a Saturday evening out plus the all day bank holiday Sunday session we had planned! Instead we had to make do with a bottle of champers (it was left in our fridge!), some crisps and dips, crackers and cheese and the 'Sound of Music' on TV. Yes we have told you how bad Aussie TV is - imagine showing that film except for at Xmas hahhahahahahhahaha.
Relieved the next day that we had stayed in, we spent several hours getting ready before Gavan appeared and the session began. We all had tickets for a Sunday afternoon clubbing event called Vamp at the Waverley Bowling Club in Bondi. We spent a few hours in the house drinking before heading out into the glorious sunshine. We all got a tad excited as we heard the pumping tunes from the bowling club a few streets away. Ya, the excitement quickly turned to dismay as what we found was more reminiscent of a family BBQ. Aussies are so bloody civilised!!!!
An afternoon clubbing session in the UK means a beer garden rammed with people on it, dancing and drinking - what we found was great music, definitely no dancing but instead people sitting around chatting, drinking, eating BBQ food and playing bowls (what?!?!?!). We sat for hours drinking and willing the crowd to kick off. Eventually Gavan headed off in search of bigger and better (and gay) things on Oxford Street and we decided to head to another pub for a few hours!!!!!
The T Gardens was pretty quiet so we stayed for an hour or so, had a few drinks chatted to a few of the lads and swanked out with our gorgeous new dresses on leaving Liam and Mark gawping behind us. Well so we like to think Hahahhahahah.....Surely there must've been some regrets in there for stuffing things up????????????
On returning to the Bowling Club we found what we were looking for. The crowd had all ventured inside, the DJ's were pumping and lots of dancing was done. That event finished at 10pm so we found ourselves in Kings X in search of another club. We had one drink at Hugo's then headed to Moulin Rouge. We queued for half an hour but weren't disappointed the place was rockin' and filled with cute 'non Irish' guys! We stayed there till almost 5am in the morning, had one drink at the Courthouse before realising we were so worse for wear we needed a new word for it home to bed was the only option!!!!! Mind you 12pm til 5am is, to be fair, a mammoth session!
Monday we were very tempted to spend the day in bed but the sun was shining and there was no excuse not to hit the beach now its was only a 15 minute walk away. We had some lunch, well, attempted to eat some lunch and lay on the grass verge by the beach for a while. An early night was required and the rest of the week was spent recovering.
On Friday we had planned to be sensible and go for a meal down by the beach. The vino started flowing a bit too nicely in the flat though and we were pretty pissed by the time we reach the restaurant. We opted for a $10 steak and a bottle of wine and found ourselves a bit bored and in need of a bit more action and attention!!!
A phone call from Carl had us jumping in a taxi for Oxford Street. We met him in the Courthouse but finding it dead we dragged him next door to the gay haunt of Stonewall. In there we bumped into our old flatmate Mark and his man Thomas. Lynnith was mortal; she was dancing (well bouncing) about everywhere, noising people up, drinking other people's drinks and generally acting like a maniac. She got bundled off in a taxi whilst Lyndsay (only a tad more sober) headed to Palms with Mark and Thomas. Lynne had already experienced Palms when Linz was back in the UK so it was all an eye opener. And eye opener it was. Don't think this place can get much gayer! The tops were off (not Lyndsay's!) and tunes were so funny. Mark and Lyndsay were falling about laughing as they danced their booty's off to the likes of Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" and Babs Streisand!!! After much pleading Lyndsay was released and the boys stopped plying her with Vodka! It was a very hazy cab ride home.
WEEK TWO
Needless to say Saturday was spent dying. We had to drag ourselves in the shower to get ready for Kink that night. After a few wines though, we were back on form and dancing around the coffee table. Kink was rocking, we spent the whole night in the VIP room dancing and gazing adoringly at the Bang Gang DJ's. Now why can't we be pulling men like that?!?! No need to answer that readers!
Around 5am we headed to Oxford Street, hit Gilligan's first but decided dancing with transvestites was even a bit too tragic for us but Lyndsay found $40 under her seat so it wasn't all bad! We then queued for half an hour to get into the Courthouse! Why oh why!!!!!!!!! It was good though, loads of the Irish boys were in there and we all danced about mad. Lynne set her sights on Alan, a cute Irish boy we'd never actually spotted in the T Gardens before. Before long her charms had worked and we were invited to the after club T2 with him and his mates. Linz by this point had noticed his friend John, who hadn't said a word in the Courthouse which is why she hadn't noticed him! However in the club he was very, very cute but no amount of dancing and smiling could entice him to even really glance in her direction! Hmmmmm not met an Irish boy like this one Hahahhahahah. Eventually being the shy, retiring type she went over and introduced herself and it turned out that he was just totally shy - ah bless! But that turned out to be a good thing as Lyndsay was doing enough talking for the two of them........ By 10am we were all bored with T2 but rather than going home to bed the four of us headed back to Penkivil Street to drink until the early afternoon. Lynne found out during this session that Alan did drink in the T Gardens, knew Liam and was on "a break" from his girlfriend. AARRGGHH......... Luckily it didn't appear John had any surprises up his sleeve!
Sunday was a total write off and there was no way we were making work on the Monday as we didn't get to bed til 9ish that night! We chilled out in the flat instead of working (!), took a trip to the shops at Bondi Junction, done a bit of food shopping and joined the local DVD shop.
Tuesday evening Gavinda came over for some dinner and wine. As he headed off to Oxford Street and Lyndsay spoke to Oor Kenneth on the phone (that boy must be sick of the tipsy phone calls!) Lynnith, in her drunken state decides to phone Liam and invite him over for dinner and to see the new flat the following week Hahahhahahah.......... He was quite receptive to the idea though so no cringing feelings the next morning Hahahhahahah......
The rest of the week was fairly quiet and we even managed to stay in on the Friday night. Well, that was after a couple of cheeky ciders in the Slip Inn after work.
WEEK THREE
Saturday was spent shopping for new outfits for Kink that evening. We were heading with the Irish entourage for Watsy's birthday. Lynnith was in a panic that she had double booked as she had been busy making arrangements with Liam to see him there but also thought Alan might be there too! Lyndsay was just hyper at the prospect of seeing John again. Luckily enough a text from Alan confirmed he was back with his girlfriend and there would be no mention of it!
After several drinks in the flat we met up with Watsy, Mark, Macker (another Dublin boy) Ash (a maddy from Perth) and some of the girls in the Slip Inn. Being our usual wall flower selves we danced about in there for a while receiving some strange looks. It's not our fault Sydneysiders are boring!!!
Upon hitting Kink Liam was nowhere in sight so his free entry guest list was given to Watsy. No sooner was Lynnith at the bar when he starts phoning! Lyndsay, the more intelligent of the 2 spent her night avoiding Mark who was wrecking her head to get back together, chatted to loads of cute guys, danced her butt off and kept a watchful eye out for John. Lynnith, the more gullible of the 2, got fed up (but also secretly pleased) with a very drunken Liam phoning every 2 minutes, so much so that she ended up standing outside Kink for what seemed like an eternity trying to direct him to the club and organise free entry for him.
It all worked out good in the end though as Lynne and Liam got it together YET
AGAIN........... Well that was after a temper tantrum (yes really!) from Oor Lynnith as she thought Liam was ignoring her after all the efforts she'd made to get him in the club.
Lyndsay had received a text from John so she knew he was in the club, but as all you youngsters will know trying to find someone in a night club is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. She wandered off on a leisurely stroll (trying not to look too desperate!) and at the door to the other room she was stopped by two guys saying "you look gorgeous". A knowing smile was thrown and she went to move on but they stopped her and were like "stay, what's your name?" After a while of the drunken Irish boys trying to understand 'Lyndsay' they begun to introduce themselves. Lyndsay was shaking hands when they moved round and one of them was like "and oh, this is John...." Too funny it was The John and he had been watching the proceedings with some amusement as his mates tried to crack on to Lyndsay! It was his turn to wipe the smile off their faces as he stepped over and planted a big smacker on her. The lads were very confused hahhahahahahhahaha. Scraping herself off the ceiling the evening was taking a turn up for the books and the rest of the night was a haze of dancing, drinking and looking smug!!! Until we stumbled out of the club around 5ish......
Plans for a quiet DVD watching Sunday were delayed for a few hours! Lynne
bumped into Macker getting out a taxi from Liam's and somehow they ended up
drinking wine and dancing round the coffee table. Lyndsay and John also
joined in for a while before the boys headed off to the T Gardens. We were
invited but sensibly opted for bed, pizza and a catch up with Gavinda.
Quite a hectic week followed. Wednesday night we had take-away dinner and
wine with some of the gay boys. Yet again we ended up drunk and dancing
round the coffee table. It's a running theme in our lives..... Wherever we end up living back in London a coffee table is gonna be an essential accessory!
Thursday approached and yet again our nerves were shattered. Lynne had Liam
coming over for dinner and Lyndsay was trying to arrange drinks with John.
Lyndsay found out that John was in the T Gardens but wasn't getting much feedback to whether or not she was to join him so knowing that a few of the lads would be in there anyway, and a few texts to Macker later and she was skipping up the road (plus Lynne was making unwelcome noises at home trying to throw her out the door!) She found the boys in the pub (after 5 mins standing outside trying to pluck up the courage to walk into the depths on her own!) and then noticed John sitting opposite with another girl - AR*E!!! After many drinks and copious texts to Lynne, who was valiantly trying to persuade her not to throw a drink - she calmed down and thought "ah well, his loss", so she settled in to get nicely piddled!
Meanwhile back at the ranch, Liam had appeared with a bottle of wine and dinner was going well. Lynne messed up the cheese sauce but other than that it was a success. A few drinks were had then the temptation to meet up with Lyndsay became too much. We had a few in the T Gardens before hitting the c*** & Bull.
The mood was lighter in the C & B but once John was spotted Lynne was doing her best WWF Wrestling moves to keep Lyndsay from creating a scene!!! Lynne decided to stroll over (well dance over) to see what the story was but didn't deem too much so she was trying to persuade Linz to go and say hello but uncharacteristically she was being stubborn (ahem!). Instead she went to nip the head's off one of his mates (you remember Alan?!?!?!). Lyndsay was like "I can't believe he has a bird?" and a shocked Alan was like "who, John? Nah that's my flatmate and one of his friends". Hmmm nice one Peaston! Sheepishly she sauntered over to say hello and he was like "you haven't talked to me all night and you've not looked too happy?" Who me??? It was as casually brushed off as it could be - no need for the lad to know that she'd been doing her Glenn Close impression - taught to her by Lynne Hahahhahahah!
Lynne and Liam didn't make work on the Friday. With it being Lyndsay's last day at ING she had no choice in the matter! The fact she turned up over an hour and a half late, still drunk and missed her 'leaving breakfast' is beside the point!!! Luckily the bosses found it amusing and gave all the staff a two hour lunch and let her finish an hour early (perhaps to get rid of Linz once and for all....)
That evening we had another night planned with the Irish boys - Liam had invited us to the Ireland v Australia boxing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was obviously the boxing we were interested in and not the chance to spend another night with Liam and John ha-ha.....
It was surprisingly a good night, Irish men everywhere, pipe band playing (tear to the eye) and a fair amount of alcohol consumed. Lyndsay and John were getting on like a house on fire and were quite happy to sit by themselves for the majority of the night. Lynne's attempts to make conversation with them on several occasions fell on deaf ears Hahahhahahah....... Liam with his usual 'ants in his pants' only managed to stay seated for about 3 fights so a lot of Lynne's night was actually spent outside at the "smoking" section with all the boys. A bit of a hardship really!!!!
After the boxing Lyndsay and John headed to the C & B for a few while Lynne was dragged to the T Gardens. A pretty early, sensible night for all though.
WEEK FOUR:
After the eventful week we stayed in on the Saturday evening and had an early night to ourselves which was interrupted (welcome though) by John appearing at 5am after being at a club with his mates! Lyndsay and John chilled out in the flat on the Sunday, poor boy sporting a headache from hell whilst Lynne strolled to Bondi beach and hooked up with Lindsay, Watsy, Ash and a few others for a bit of sunbathing and lunch.
With Lyndsay out of work this week her and Gavan were becoming pub regulars, so to put a bit of exercise into the regime they did the Bondi-Coogee walk. They nearly gave up halfway but the lure of the Coogee Bay Hotel at the other end spurned them on. A few (or ten) refreshing ciders were supped and lunch consumed in the blistering sun and after sending Lynne text messages to make her jealous, she decided to join us after work for a couple. Home by a reasonable time though.
Linz and Gav decided to walk round the Botanic Gardens the next day but after being attacked by 50 million flies (yeah no-one mentioned the plague of flies Sydney gets) they bailed and headed to the Tilbury where they met James for some drinky poos! Again not to be outdone, Lynne popped over after work and Mark (our old flatmate) turned up so it ended up being a tiddly night (again!)
On the Friday Mark and Lyndsay met in the city and hooked up with Lynne on her lunch break. We had hot roast beef rolls in Darling Harbour and when they sent Lynne off, crying, back to work, they decided it was much too nice a day to head home. So they headed for another 'home'. Home Bar in the Harbour. Feeling very 'camp' Linz and Mark opted for Champagne Strawberry cocktails and by the time Lynne finished work they were still sat there drinking the bar dry! After another few we decided Mark should come back and see the flat and continue boozing with us whilst we got ready for another exciting night in the Junction. Much hilarity, singing and dancing was had as usual and it was a very drunken Lynne and Lyndsay that stumbled into the T Gardens a few hours later. We somehow made it to the C & B and did our usual 'falling about drunk' and 'flirting like mad' efforts that usually be felled us on a Friday night Hahahhahahah! Lynnith was most pleased when an equally drunken Liam appeared at the flat when we got home.
WEEK FOUR AND A HALF:
The Saturday saw us having a nice wee lunch in Bondi Junction and one (yes one) drink in the T Gardens. We were off home for an early night that was interrupted when Graeme (the barmy Scot) and Simon (the cheeky Irishman) from next door invited us over for a 'quiet' drink on their balcony! You know how that ended up........ Yup we were burning a hole in the lounge room carpet with all our dancing and the lads were giving themselves neck ache from shaking their heads in bewilderment at us! Another early night ruined - see folks we do try it's all other people who influence us (Eh, GQ?!?!?!??!?!)
Our Sunday's are now forming a pattern and we found ourselves in the Royal with the mad asses still out from the Saturday night and playing catch-up quite nicely! It was a mad day with mucho fun and we stumbled from the Royal to the T Gardens to the C & B then to East's (a late night drinking establishment). Linz and Graeme amused everyone with their Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray impressions form Dirty Dancing. G is turning out to be quite the John Travolta Hahahhahahah! It was 5am when we finally made it home with a locked out Mark in tow - he proved to be very useful at helping us stagger up the road though!
Needless to say that work on the Monday for Lynne and Mark was a distant memory and luckily Linz hadn't gotten another job yet, so the three of us camped out in bed although we think Mark was living to regret his decision as we wrecked his head all day and generally made nuisances of ourselves!!! We ventured out to the cinema later to see "In her Shoes" which was an amazing film but we shed a few tears in our emotional states!
