The Simple Life
Some 15 hours later we finally arrived in Sydney bus terminal. Lyndsay jumped excitedly in a taxi for John's (having been surprisingly invited) whilst Lynne headed back to Penkivil Street. A text from Brian en route though had her barely catching a few hours sleep before heading up to the T Gardens.
We did have big plans to head into the city for a Xmas Eve booze-up but it was such a disaster we need a new word for disaster! By the time we left a party at John's mates and argued with the taxi driver over directions we'd missed the 12 o clock celebrations, the club we planned to go to was already over, finished at 11:30pm apparently! Kink wasn't on; a trip to Kings X found us being ID'd (no ID on us) and told most places were shutting by 2am. It was almost 1:30am. Ya Xmas in Sydney was beginning to suck! Lynne extremely peed off by this point and tired from the bus journeys decided to give up and just head home to bed. Lyndsay, John and Mark (John's mate) headed to Le Panic (a club) for a few but went back to John's not long after.
Awake bright and early the next morning Lynne phoned the family in Scotland, opened her presents, unpacked her backpack and spent time with the "bairns". Lyndsay returned from her Xmas morning with John, all smiley about early afternoon; opened all her presents then we headed over to Graeme's for our Scottish breakfast. We were a tad late and poor Graeme had to make another fresh batch of bacon, square slice sausage, haggis and potato scone. It was delicious though and washed down nicely with our first few glasses of wine of the day! I know white wine and tattie scones - EUGH! Just to add to the class of the day Lynne was drinking her wine from a beer mug with a bell on it!
Before we knew it, it was 2:30pm and time to join Brian and his friends for a BBQ. We headed to Paki's (another Irish boys) were the celebrations were taking place. A nice top floor corner apartment with a huge wrap round balcony. Looking back now we could have spent our Xmas day better - went to the beach for a bit, cooked a proper Xmas dinner but well, like everything else in our lives by that point it was unorganised. It was a good enough day but just not festive at all. The BBQ was prepared early and still being full from our breakfast we ended up not eating anything! We consumed plenty of alcohol though, got to know Brian's friends better, (Paki, Blouse, Johnny, Dave, Derek, Paul, and Brian 2) took over the CD player and danced. Comments were made on Boxing Day about what good dancers we are by boys we can't even remember meeting!!!!!
We did head down to the beach later on as there was some dance event on but with only an hour left we refused to pay the entrance fee. Lyndsay by this point had drank herself sober anyway and was SO over the day she decided to head home and speak to her family. Lynne went back to the party for a few hours and can barely remember getting home.
Boxing Day with Linz fresh as a daisy and Lynne's hangover in tow we headed to the T Gardens for another day of madness. We drank in there for a few hours with Brian and crew before heading to the Slip Inn with Marty for an afternoon clubbing session. Lloyd and his new posse of mentalist mates were there so we spent the day dancing and drinking with them. An old work friend of Lyndsay's from the UK, Rebecca was in Sydney so came and met us, she only stayed for one drink though, hmm, were we that mad by then?!?!?...... Much fun was had by us though hahahhahaah......
By 11pm we were back in the T Gardens a bit worse for wear. Lynne had broken her sandal strap, lost yet another contact lens and missing her head scarf (it was round Lloyd's head) and was sporting a bouffant effect hair-do. Lyndsay's new neck scarf was in tatters, don't ask! Lyndsay was most pleased to find John there and a lot of the original crowd too so it was great to have a few Xmas drinks with them. Lynnith finding herself drawn, as usual to Liam decided the safest option was to head to Brian's. She partied till almost 5:30am with his mates, while he was in bed ill through drink. Lyndsay found herself in the infamous Courthouse with John and his mates. They fell home to bed soon after with john a tad under the weather!
Overcast the next day Lynne didn't feel guilty about barely moving from bed. She was joined by Lyndsay on her return from John's late afternoon. John had woken up in the mood he'd passed out in and was a miserable dog all morning. It was a very bewildered Linz that was unceremoniously dropped off by him the following afternoon. Weirdo!!! Very annoyed at John, Lyndsay was more than happy to meet with Sean when he text early evening, knowing she was back from the Coast! Lynne also received a surprise phone call from Liam, he'd suddenly realised she was leaving in a few weeks and wanted to come over and see her. As usual his charms worked and we both spent a much unexpected evening with Sean and Liam!!!!!
Up early the next day we jumped on the ferry to Manly to meet our old mates Tommo and Andy from Perth, for breakfast. We ate, caught up, went for a wander down by the beach, had a few drinks then headed home to recover from all our Xmas partying.
The next day saw the return of the sunshine and we headed down to the beach to meet Lisa, Lynne's oldest friend who was in Sydney visiting her brother (Scott who runs Kink). We caught up with her for a few hours, went for some lunch then conveniently bumped into Brian and his mates playing football on the beach! They all have nice bodies for Irish men hahahhahaah - not that we were looking! Lynne was left very confused with Brian's cool attitude towards her - bad karma perhaps for seeing Liam a few nights before hahahhahaah......Or perhaps he'd been at John's school of thought - head wreckers!!!
After a dip in Dave's swimming pool we got showered and changed for yet another drinking session. It was Thursday night our c*** & Bull night. We had a few drinks in the T Gardens but there was no-one of interest and not a lot happening, we had one drink in the C & B but with a new crowd and no familiar faces we found ourselves in the Side Bar in the city to meet Sean. Imagine Lyndsay's shocked face please when she rocked into the side bar to meet Sean only to see John and his mates at the bar! CAUGHT!!! Ah well John had not been in touch since his hissy mood swings of Boxing Day so she said hello, asked if he'd had a nice Xmas and then went to join Sean, who was looking a tad nervous hahahhahaah! Lynne and Linz got drunk more on adrenaline from the Crappy Irish lads than the booze but a good night was had by all and it was very late to bed.
It was an absolute scorcher the next day but both feeling a tad fragile and very sorry for ourselves over the end of our Brian and John smugness we couldn't face a day on the beach. We instead found ourselves in our old haunt The Clock in Surry Hills having some lunch and a few drinks.
That night we met with Macker and a friend of his over from Dublin. We started off very sensibly at the Beach Road Hotel but as usual the magnetic force of the T Gardens pulled us in that direction. We actually had a great night, the new jukebox and refurbishments had definitely brought a new touch of madness to the establishment. No men were involved (well some flirting with Linz and Simon but that happened every time they seen each other anyway!) we had fun with Macker and the mentalist crew from Boxing Day and what better way to end the evening than pushing each other home in a shopping trolley AND phoning Macker's mates back in Dublin. Yes, any ounce of classiness we once had was now well and truly gone.....
Hogmanay was upon us and another scorcher of a day. We spent a few hours on the beach with the bairns then caught the train to Kings X to meet our Surry Hill muckers Mark and Big Al. Ah, to be in the presence of gay men again. We were greeted at the train station with flowers and talks of champagne cocktails.
After a fish supper and some drinks at Al's new place we headed over to Mark's for our rooftop terrace NYE party. OH MY GOD what a view. We had the opera house and Harbour Bridge in front of us and the Sydney city skyline behind. We drank vodka and champagne and mingled with the other groups up on the rooftop. Before we knew it the fireworks were going off at 4 different points in the city, we had views of them all. It was absolutely breathtaking and we will admit there were a few teary moments. That was quickly changed to girly screams when Al got the sparklers out. Slightly awestruck at what we'd just seen we headed into Mark's apartment for nibbles and some more cocktails but found ourselves home in bed at a very sensible 2am.
