Hey everyone
Today was video diary day!
Last night we decided to leave Sydney much earlier than we had originally planned. Job hunting had been unsuccessful and though we had initially planned to stay in Sydney for about 6 weeks, we now thought it was best to move on and up the east coast. We could then find a job somewhere, maybe on the harvest trail, and stay there for 6 weeks.
So today we were going to see all the sights of Sydney that we hadn't seen yet but wanted to see before leaving. We also decided to take the video camera with us, and document where we went throughout the day.
Our first stop was St Mary's Cathedral, which was an impressive yet eerie place. Christina thought how it was odd, with all the temples and mosques that we had seen that seemed to reflect a celebration of the religion, that a catholic church was a sombre place to be.
We then went to the botanic gardens for one final explore, and we had a look around the rose garden, the herb garden and the Government House (which was annoyingly closed for the day). At one point we saw a group of bats hanging from a tree. We then had a nice picnic with big baguettes, and filmed a little video update.
Our next stop was the New South Wales Art Gallery. It had a nice range of artwork, and we both picked our favourites and took photos of them. We then quickly rushed over to the Hyde Park Barracks Museum, to make sure we could have a good look around before it closed. Here we learnt about the convict transport ships, as well as the history of the building - it was originally a convict prison, then an Irish orphanage, then an women's infirmary, then finally a barracks.
After that it was back to the hostel for dinner followed by another film (Eagle Eye this time) and ice cream. We got a pretty early night as annoyingly we had to move rooms in the morning. We've got one more night (after this) in Sydney, and tomorrow would be the finale, as we would go to the Blue Mountains... Xxx
