Hey everyone
Today was... another job day.
Don't worry, its starts vaguely exciting. Our first port of call was... The City of Sydney One Stop Shop. This is where all the applications, permissions and permits are dealt with for most of Sydney. Can you guess what it is yet? We were here so Alex could get a busking permit. It was all pretty simple, just a small form (Performance: close-up magic), 10 dollars and a profile photo later, he had a lovely piece of memorabilia from Sydney in his hands.
Our next stop was the Australian Government Tax Office. Fun stuff. Here, we filled out forms to get TFNs (tax file numbers), which were necessary if we only wanted to be taxed 29% instead of 49% - how nice. We put our postal address as the Postal Restorante, in case we moved hostels within Sydney and it was safer than putting the hostel address.
Next, we went off in different directions to do different things (for pretty much the first time on our travels). Alex went off to do some busking, whilst Christina went to give her CV out to pubs and bars. Alex's busking went 'ok' - in a little over an hour he made $10, from just four people. Not many people stopped as his busking sign and 'area' wasn't very well marked out or prominent, but when they did stop they seemed to love the magic and happily gave a few dollars. At least the cost of the permit was covered and it was a bit of fun (aside from the 10 minute gaps when no one stopped).
Over in another area of Sydney, Christina gave her CV out to every bar and club she came across, but no one seemed to be hiring. We met back at the hostel and exchanged stories of what we had been up to, before having some dinner and watching a film before bed. Xxx
