Hey everyone
Today was another job day (sigh).
In the morning the other couple in our room checked out, so we quickly stole their bunk bed as it was right next to the window (with amazing view), the tv, dvd player, microwave, sink area... pretty much everything.
As Alex wasn't feeling very well, he didn't do much that morning, whilst Christina went out to attack the job market again. First she went to a couple of temp agencies that dealt with backpackers, but both required expensive membership fees. She returned to the hostel to finish her CV, then got copies of it printed at reception, and handed it out to a few bars in the area.
Back at the hostel again, Alex was feeling a bit better, and received an email from someone we had contacted on Gumtree (dot com) about an apartment in Bondi Beach looking for a short term contract. We arranged to go view it in the evening, but decided to get there early to spend some time on Bondi Beach. We had a nice walk along the beach, and sat and watched lots of dog walkers go by. We thought about what it would be like to live next to the beach for a month, and everything from 'what if we then got jobs in Sydney?' to 'what if we couldn't get jobs at all?'.
After sitting and pondering all the different scenarios for a while, it was time to go view the apartment. It was about 5 minutes from the beach, in a nice enough area, and the couple living in one of the two bedrooms showed us around. We liked the apartment, but unfortunately they wanted a minimum stay of two months, whilst we could only stretch as far as one (giving us enough time to travel up the coast). So, leaving with slightly glum faces, we made our way back to Sydney and the hostel.
To cheer ourselves up, we bought a tub of Cadburys triple chocolate ice cream on our way back, and borrowed a movie (Gran Torino) from the hostel reception. To save some money (for more ice cream), for dinner Christina had spaghetti on toast and Alex had beans on toast. We prepared it downstairs then took the 4 staircases from the basement to the top floor of the hostel, but just as Christina was sitting on the bed, some of her spaghetti slid out of the bowl and the hot tomato sauce split on her and the bed. So, a few minutes later after some panicking and washing of trousers in the sink, we sat back down on the bed being especially careful with our now not-quite-so-hot food.
By the end of the film (and two big bowls of ice cream) we weren't so annoyed about not getting the apartment, as we would prefer to live in Sydney where there would be more jobs, plus we wouldn't want to be tied into a contract if we then couldn't get jobs. With these thoughts in mind, we went off to sleep. Xxx
