Hey everyone
Today was Darling Harbour day!
We got up but before we went out for the day (as it was Sunday we decided no job hunting etc), it was time to move rooms! We booked an additional 3 nights yesterday (as we had come to the end of the 5 nights we originally booked), and for some reason were upgraded from the six bed dorm we'd been staying in so far to a four bed dorm. So after breakfast we quickly packed our bags and went upstairs to our new room. It's much more spacious, has its own en suite, and a tv, dvd player, microwave and extra sink area all down one end of the room next to one of the bunkbeds. Basically, it's nice.
We had a good chat with the other couple who had one more night in the dorm. They told us about New Zealand, where they had been, and we told them about Thailand, where we had been. We then all went out to the wine festival in the nearby Hyde Park, but tasting wine cost lots so we didn't bother with that and just had a good look around.
We then headed over to Darling Harbour, the other touristy harbour area of Sydney (along with Circular Quay). First, we had a lovely little picnic on a patch of grass, and Christina made sure we were in the shade as it was a hot day. We had learnt earlier, from our new roommates, that Australia happens to have no ozone layer above it. Instead there is just a big hole. Because of this, it's especially easy to get sunburnt when out in the sun, and people can even get sunburnt on a cloudy day. So lunch in the shade without a doubt!
After our lunch we went and bought our favourite bargain in Sydney. A McDonalds ice-cream cone for 30 cents (about 15p). Most ice creams cost 2 or 3 dollars, but not the cone. Next, to the Maritime Museum. This was free to enter, and though we weren't expecting much, it turned out to be huge. We learnt all about the navy ships, the convict ships, and boats made out of beer cans. A couple of hours later it was time to leave as we had decided to go to the nearby Imax cinema - it just so happens to be the largest imax cinema screen in the world! We had chosen to watch a film about the deep sea that was in 3D, and it was amazing. The screen is eight storeys high, and the 3D effects were really impressive. Christina thought it looked so real that when the camera went under the sea at the beginning of the film, she held her breath. So 50 minutes of 'ooh'ing and 'aah'ing later, we came out of the cinema and decided to have a final explore of Darling Harbour before heading back to the hostel.
On our way back, we stopped off at Woolworths to get some food, and we made some delicious spaghetti bolognese back at the hostel. Christina ended up drinking far too much Pepsi (we had decided to treat ourselves as it was on offer), and I'm sure many of you can guess what she was like as she moaned about her stomach.
So lots of Pepsi later it was time to go off to bed, not particularly looking forward to the job hunting that would continue tomorrow... Xxx
