Hey everyone
Today we explored Sydney some more.
At 6am, Christina was woken by the sound of a loud horn coming from miles away. It turned out to be the superliner, Queen Mary 2, which was docking in Sydney harbour for the day. We knew it was going to be in Sydney, as there had been road signs and posters around for days. Last time it was Sydney the QE2 arrived on the same day, and thousands of people went to see the ships side by side. This time it was only the QM2, but there were still crowds of people in the Botanic Gardens where you could get a great view.
From the Botanic Gardens we went over towards the Harbour Bridge, and the closer we got to it, the more impressive it became. We had to take a few flights of stairs to get up to the level of the bridge, and then we began the walk across it. To our right, we had an amazing view of the harbour, whilst to our left we had several lanes of busy traffic and trains going past every few minutes. We had decided not to do the bridge climb as Christina wasn't very keen, but we still got great views from walking across it.
About 20 minutes of trekking across the bridge later, we made it to North Sydney! We found the nearest bench (out of the powerful midday sun) and had a much needed relax and our lunch. As tired as we already were, we now had to walk all the way back. However it didn't take as long going back as we didn't stop to take photos every few minutes.
On our way back through The Rocks, we decided to pop into The Rocks Discovery Museum - we never turn down a free museum! We had a good look around and learnt about he history of The Rocks, the oldest part of Sydney. We also had some fun playing on an archaeology PC game...
Our next stop was the Tourist Information Centre, where we picked up countless leaflets on things to do in Sydney, and then began the long trek back to the hostel (we wanted to be back in time to claim our lovely free 'meal'). Not much happened in the evening - a bit of reading, a bit of internet, a bit of blogging, and then to bed. Tomorrow we would take on the Australian Museum... Xxx
