Today was our first day in Sydney!
After a lengthy drive to the hostel, we finally arrived and stood outside the Ayslum. We went inside, checked in and were shown around. It's a tall, old townhouse converted into a hostel, decorated with lots of graffiti art. Our first impressions were that it was definitely not as clean as the Footprints Hostel in Singapore, but with every hostel so far we've not really known what to expect (and they've all been pretty different).
We were shown to our room, which we were sharing with four others, then quickly fell asleep on our beds. A few hours later we woke up, showered, then decided to go for a walk to explore the area, Kings Cross and Wooloomooloo. It's one of the more dodgy areas of Sydney, but we eventually found a very small park with a big fountain that looked like a dandelion. We sat there for a while, and talked about random things we can't remember. However we can remember that something Christina said lead to Alex being in hysterics.
Anyway, we went back to the hostel, bought some food on the way, then decided to go and get our free meal that the hostel provides. We collected our vouchers from reception then headed to the nearby hotel for our 'small' meal (we weren't sure how small it would be). We had a choice of three dishes, and both went for 'chips and sausage'. A few minutes later, we were presented with two child-like plates with a handful of chips and a frankfurter sausage on each. Mmmmm. However, it was one of the first meals Christina has ever finished, so it wasn't all bad.
Back at the hostel, we got a very early night as we were still so tired from the plane. It hadn't been a very eventful first day in Sydney, but maybe tomorrow would be...Xxx
