Garth got up to hear the little girl next to him ask 'where has that lady gone?' so cute! We left and got petrol and spent 1.5 he's in McDs to charge my phone, blog and email. We then drove south towards the coast.
We looked for the 'Lothlorien' location but couldn't find it. However I did find the 'Rivendale' location in Kaitoke Regional Park. The location itself was a little disappointing as there was no set and a lot of overgrown plants. I don't think they used it for the hobbit. However, we took an hours walk through the forest on the Swingbridge Walk which was ace! It was very jungley with gigantic trees (not as big as the amazon but still very impressive) lush vegetation and a swing bridge over the low, but beautiful river!
We also attempted to find the locations for the river Anduin and Helms Deep - we found the quart, but it was still functional so gave it a miss! Lol
We then drove right down to the south coast of the north island and camped at Catchpool Valley in the Rimutaka Forest Park which was a little hard to find but the hot shower was worth it! It was very empty for a camp site that fits 150 sites, so we got a little Clive to ourselves. The smell of the eucalyptus trees was lush and there were some beautiful bird songs that reminded me if The Hunger Games film!
I cooked great chicken tortillas and I attempted to cut Garths hair but the shaver ran out of battery before I finished, but it still looked okay! :)
