We woke early and set off on our 9hr journey to the Fox Glacier. We stopped for breakfast by the Upper Buller Gorge with a fan view. Garth drove to Reefton then I drove to Greymouth where we topped up on bread, petrol, booked our half day glacier walk for tomorrow and had a brief time of wifi at McDs!
I then drove to Hokitika where we enjoyed a quick lunch by the sea. Garth drove to Harihari and I drove to Franz Josef Glacier. Our first glimpse of the glacier was so exciting and we turned into little kids! We drove through the tone town and followed to signed to the glacier. We drove as close as poss then took at 10 min walk to get a view of the glacier. It was quite unfathomable! It didn't seem real! It looked as though you could walk across the dry river bed right up to the foot of the glacier, but we refrained the temptation to get to Fox.
I drove a wiggly mountain to Fox where we bought some ice and went to our camper can park. The weather had been really over cast all day so we saw nothing of the Fox Glacier... But it made me really appreciate how amazing and God given out weather was yesterday at Abel Tasmin!
Our park was $18pp which is the most expensive camp we've stayed in but the hot shower was well worth it after yesterday's walk and salty sea dips and today's long drive and hundreds of sand fly bites in general. There are only a handful of sand flies here so it's much more manageable. (still millions of Germans though)! We enjoyed a pasta dinner and wine before an early night.
