We handed in our faithful car this morning, it did everything we asked of it in the last nearly 7 weeks. In that time we did an unbelievable 11678km. Returning it was an easy process; we drove in, got out, a guy scanned the bar code on the windscreen, said thank you and another guy helped us get our gear out of the car, put it in a bus and drove us to the airport terminal. That was it, all done. By the time we had checked in for our flight the invoice was through and our credit card charged.
In the terminal were a couple of vending machines that were a bit different to test we have at home. It had high end electrical gear, Dr Dre beats headsets, iPhones, iPods, go pro cams and more. They all came with a price guarantee, if you see a lower price in the next 15 days at a Best Buys store they'll refund the diff. Yesterday while at Grapevine Mill Mall we saw one of those game machines which usually have chocolate or fluffy toys as prizes if you work the mechanical arm correctly. This one though had different prizes, iPads, Mac Book Pro, phones, high end sunglasses and more. All for a dollar a try. Call me a sceptic but I can't help but think it highly unlikely many have a win.
A short flight got us to El Paso, an hour and a half later we were off on another plane to LA. The free shuttle quickly had us to our hotel for the next two nights. It's a lot cooler here than Texas, maybe 20 or so, cooler at night and not expected to improve over the next couple of days.
Our first flight from Aust to LA caused some fairly major damage to one of our two new suitcases. After today's flights the other is also badly damaged. They have something like 15 years warranty so it should be interesting when we get back and dig that out to make a claim on them both. We think they'll both make it home but aren't in great shape.
We've been talking on FB to Michelle whom we met at the MACNA conference and she's also in LA from tomorrow night to attend a wedding on Saturday. She's arranged for us to visit some marine importers on Friday, three in all. We will see the first two alone and then meet up with her for the third, it should be good :-)
Not much else to report for today, we really are winding it all down at this point. We're enjoying chilling, taking it a lot slower. Once we're back home we know there'll be a lot of catching up so there won't be too much kicking back then.
