Neither of us slept well so we were up early to hit the local supermarket. Got the fixings for salad & some cold cuts for dinner tonight & a half dozen eggs so I can get back to protein for breakfast. Our room rate includes breakfast but its all carbs, cereal, breads, pastries & what's fast becoming a fave of Pete's, Belgian waffles you make yourself (or in Pete's case I make for him lol) with butter and maple syrup. The only kitchen equipment in our room is a coffee maker so I boiled the eggs quite successfully in that.
Then it was time to farewell the mustang, dropping it back to Oakland Airport before catching the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train into SF. It goes under the Bay so we' re yet to cross either of the bridges.
We spent 5 hours walking, checking it all out, China Town, the Ferry Terminal which has awesome views of the Bay Bridge & downtown SF. Pete ticked off a couple more gastronomic delights, empanadas at the ferry terminal & a pretzel at Union Sq, the first a hit the 2nd a miss, too salty for the king of salt - go figure! Then we took to the famous cable cars. We had a ball, hanging off the side as it shot up & down the famous streets we all know so well from movies & TV shows. The end of the line was fishermans wharf where there were bands playing and heaps of people all over the place. We had some lunch, calamari, yum & tried the garlic fries, not so yum lol as fond as we both are of garlic the heavy dose of raw garlic was a bit too much for either of us.
We've got an early start tomorrow so we're back to the hotel to settle in for a quiet night. Tomorrow we head north to Yosemite Park, we are both looking forward to that one :-)
