India and Nepal 2022
It's pouring down this morning as I head off to Jana Jyoti school on the back of a motorbike. School assembly is cancelled as its so wet and I won't get to hear the national anthem today! I am working out my project plan for the next couple of weeks and look forward to the variety of things I have been asked to do by the Nepal Schools Trust. At the break, I am given an impromptu lesson is signing the letters of the alphabet by the deaf children who are boarders at the school and attend a special unit. Lunchtime brings hordes of children over to observe me and find out more about my visit. Most greet me with the namaste hands gesture which is charming and I have learned a few Nepali phrases to say my name and where I come from. The bell rings and it's the end of the school day and the sun is now shining. I walk back through the village, the only westerner for miles around and feel a unique privilege of being here and getting a small glimpse into life in rural Nepal.
