India and Nepal 2022
I caught the local public bus for the five and a half hour journey to Devchuli in Nawalparasi District. After leaving the smog of the Kathmandu valley behind, the bus followed the river for many miles on the high mountain road. Rural Nepal is so different from the big city and I could see the terracing on the steep mountain sides from the bus window and smaller village and town communities. I arrived at Daldale and was picked up on the back of a motorbike and taken to the Jan Jyoti school where I will be based for the next three weeks. A welcoming group of students presented me with flowers on the school field and I received the traditional garland from the school Principal. I am staying with Chandra Pandey and her husband Shankar who have lived in the village for 25 years. They are a lovely couple and make me very welcome. There is no power until 7pm but somehow, it's fun to be in candle light. They are self sufficient with wheat, dahl, vegetables and fruit as well as a cow in a shed behind the house which provides milk each day.

Lynne Hi Rich Having stumbled across your blog quite by accident I am now catching up with your exploits. So pleased for you that you have realised a long held ambition here. I will be interested to see how contrasting or not the Education process is to the UK. Your living conditions remind me of mine when I stayed with a family in Northern Thailand for a week. Enjoy :-)
