India and Nepal 2022
I got up early for one final view of the river and was rewarded with the sight of a gharial crocodile swimming gently downstream. Chitwan is an atmospheric place, especially the sound of silence at dusk and dawn. The six hour road journey through the mountains into Kathmandu is little changed since my last trip this way 30 years ago with Elizabeth. It's a bumpy road and it's very busy in both directions with trucks, buses and vans. I am picked up in Kathmandu by Rup who takes me, plus large rucksack and smaller bag on the back of his motorbike to his home in Lalitpur (Patan). He notices that my trainers need a repair so we visit the local cobbler. I sat in awe as he sealed and then stitched the soles more firmly to the shoes - a bargain for £1.25. If you were following my Camino walk blog, you will be thinking that I could have done with such Nepalese shoe repairing skills there! Photos will be uploaded later
