Monday : Overcast
We were up just in time for breakfast and to tidy up before our checkout at 10am. Then we caught the metro to Gare de l'est train station where we waited for our train to Epernay.
The train trip was over in a flash only three stops to Epernay and then we had a short walk to our hotel. The hotel is good it has free wifi and has views of a nearby hill side that is covered in grape vines.
Epernay looks like a nice town too. Pretty quiet, with a compact old town area. It's Smack bam in the middle of the champagne region, so there are vineyards and champagne houses everywhere.
We were pretty hungry, so we went to a grocery store that was close by. We picked up an awesome lunch that turned out to be dinner as well. It was so cheap too. Two baguettes, mortadella, salad, fruit and bottle of champagne €10. A hell of a lot cheaper than Paris!
Once we had finished gorging ourselves, we went for a walk up Av De Champagne. Kim had described the street to me as a road that you can walk along and wander into all the champagne houses and do a little tasting. Yes you can just wander in, but they are not houses they mansions! Pretty much palaces! I expected little bars or something. Most of them were closed up from the day, we just walked up and down taking notes of the houses that we will go into tomorrow.
Once we were finished doing our reconnaissance, we walked back along the river and stopped off at a different store to buy some chocolate to have with the champagne back in our room.
