Saturday - Rain
We left the hotel early today, we were heading back to Bordeaux, and wanted to stop off at a winery along the way in Bergerac.
The rain stopped just outside Bergerac, once we found the information office I waited in the car and Kim went inside and found info on a winery that was open and nearby.
We went to Chateau la Tiregard and had a nice tour. We got taken around their wine cellars and tried all the wines that they produce.
The owner and son were there, and the father was in Australia for the 2000 Olympics and did a tour of some Australian wine regions. He said that he was quite impressed with some Tasmanian wines, I might have to try some when I get back, because his wines were great! We bought two bottles, one rose and one red.
From Bergerac it was about an hour to Bordeaux, but we had another stop at Saint Emillion. What a nice place SE is too. If we come back to france we will definitely have come back here. There are wine chateaux and vineyards everywhere, meaning plenty of vin to drink.
Before we dropped the car off, we did a lunch, dinner and breakfast shop. Then dropped our bags off at the hotel. The reception was closed, it opened at 3pm. Bloody hell they have it good here! The working hours in france seem to be 10-12 2-6pm. How do they get anything done! I'm so jealous! We only had to wait 30mins so I left Kim with the bags at reception while I went to refill the tank and return the car.
Thankfully there we no problems returning the car, and I walked back to the hotel. Kim had just finished taking our bags up to our room by the time I had returned. Lucky me.
We made some sandwiches for lunch, then we went out and tried to find an Internet cafe to fax our overseas voting forms. The cafes fax couldn't connect to the number that we had so we tried to scan and email it instead. That didn't work either.
We saved the scanned papers and went back to the hotel to try on our computer. It worked. We didn't do that much for the rest of the arvo, the hotels wifi was good so Kim did some more trip booking.
Later after dinner, I went for a walk to the train station, to see if I could buy train tickets from Malaga to Barcelona because we couldn't buy the through the website. The tickets needed to be posted, bit old school.
I could buy the ticket from the station but on my 10min walk to the station the tickets had gone up €65. Ouch. We ended up buying cheaper flights instead.
Im really happy we spent the money on hiring a car and traveling to the places we did in the past week. It was terrific! We were pretty close in choosing not to do it as well. The two regions were completely different and were definitely worth a look. It made it so much easier having the car, it would of been very difficult and time consuming getting there without it that's for sure.
