Friday : Fine
We had another thirty or so kilometer ride today. We set off nice and early, well at 10am, its as early as we could. Haha! We didn't have the best sleep last night so we were a bit sluggish, in our defense.
The ride today was excellent! The track took us first through another forest, then to another chateau. Unfortunately if we wanted to see it, we had to buy a ticket to get inside the grounds. Unlike the one yesterday. So we kept on riding, and from there onwards the riding was beautiful. We took very nice country streets past lots of vineyards and through lots of pretty little villages and farms, with heaps of hay bails.
The route was again very well sign posted and lead us right too the chateau that we wanted to rest at. However we were shutdown again by the need to purchase tickets. We didn't really feel the urge to purchase tickets, we just wanted to look at the chateaux not go inside them. We have been inside enough castles.
Never mind there was a winery next door so we went in and did a tasting instead. We can never get enough of wine though! The wines that we tasted were very different, well maybe not so much the Blanc, they we very nice and refreshing. The Rouge on the other hand was very light and crisp, haven't had too many of those reds lately. They were definitely great for the warm weather at the moment.
We left the winery and continued riding, but seeing how we hadn't stopped for a break yet, we were too early to visit anymore wineries further up the road. They were all closed for there long lunch, so we kept on riding through all the vineyards, corn farms (we even saw and emu or ostrich farm) and villages.
We ended up stopping in the shade by a river to give our rumps a break and to eat. From the lunch break the track took us back through the cool forest we came through in the morning. Then back over the old Blois stone bridge and through the town to the bike shop where we returned our bikes. It was so much fun riding through the french countryside these past couple days, it was very peaceful.
It was late in the afternoon and we went back to the hotel to rest our sore tooshes. I went up to the shops to pickup some dinner while Kim did some more trip planing. She's a great travel agent!
