So recently we have taken to the two wheeled transport to get some exercise and pass the time while we continue the search for a job. The Hawkes Bay council have spent $30+ mill of tax payers money on cycle path ways and tracks for the locals to keep active, so before our tax is put into this expenditure we may as well try it out to make sure we are happy with our investment. Currently we have been getting Amanda used to being on a bike again, with out her dad there watch over her, and have been using an off road but flat cycle path along the Tuki river. We have been doing a 7.5km ride past vineyards, orchards, herds of cows and sheep before turning round and heading back with Te Mata peak being on the horizon as we go back to the car. At present the bike Amanda has been using will not go higher than 2nd gear so this has allowed us to enjoy a steady ride along the pathway. On our first trip we took a 20 minute break part way through as we met two ladies from Aukland who, on rented bikes, had got a puncture and asked if I could change the tyre. I have to thank my dad for showing me what to do all those years ago as I dismantled her wheel and set to putting the new tube on to the bike whilst Amanda enjoyed a chat with them both. Once finished I was declared a 'hero' by the ladies and we went back to our journey whilst in the knowledge that a hero is really nothing but a sandwich! (please watch Russell Howard's Good News for the reasoning).
