We woke up feeling refreshed and I decided we should open the curtains to see what the views were like, as it had been dark the whole time we had been there, and boy was it some view. There are green hills as far as the eyes can see, with sheep and cows going about their daily lives in them.
We have decided that each morning we will do job searching and then enjoy the afternoons. On Thursday we decided to go into the local village, Havelock North, to see what the local area as like. Instead of asking for directions we thought we could remember the way we went the night before, turns out we didn't remember and drove the complete wrong way for 20 mins until the petrol light came on so we made the decision to turn round and go the other way to find out we would have got to the village in less than 5 mins and not had to worry about almost running out of petrol!!
Considering the stories my dad had told us of the smaller towns we were pleasantly surprised with how big and not "backwards" as had been suggested. We had lunch at a local cafe, well it was the deep fried goodness of a bar platter, before having a mooch around and going to the local super market.
When we returned to the house we offered to help Travis go and get the eggs from the chickens, this required negotiating an electric fence and a steep hill. Being the kind of gentlemen I am I jumped over first before picking Amanda up and lifting her over the fence, unfortunately as I set her on her feet she stumbled which caused me to lose my footing and slide on my backside down the hill before styling it out and continuing to walk.
Friday started like Thursday, with us both searching and applying for jobs all over the country, at around midday I got a little restless and while Amanda finished off an application I decided to go have a bounce on the trampoline, this turned out to be a bad decisions as I quickly fell off the trampoline and landed on my back and have been walking like an old man ever since.
Once the pain had subsided a little we decided to take a drive to a local town called Napier to see what it was like, it is known as the art deco capital of t the world as they had an earthquake many years ago that destroyed most of the town so when it was rebuilt art deco wash the fashion so most of the buildings remain in this style. Napier was nice and quiet with a beach, which has a temporary ice rink on!!!
We returned from Napier to meet Graham back at the house, as he works away during the week, and had our first BBQ in New Zealand :)
