New Years
So for new year Amanda and I headed towards Gisborne, not for the festival but too see the first sunrise of 2013.
We borrowed a tent from the guys and headed to a little campsite right on the beach so we wouldn't have to travel too far when we woke at 5am to see the sun. The tent was a 6 man, so a little large for two, and the task of putting it up made harder when there was only one peg! So I went on search for some and spoke to he campsite owner to ask him for some tent pegs. Unfortunately he thought I said tampons and awkwardly ask a woman passing by if she could help with some sanitary products as he couldn't! Once we were on the same wave length I got 7 pegs from him, that he had run over with his lawn mower so all mangled up, we managed to get the tent in place and hoped it would not be windy that night!
After watching some kids play cricket we had an early night, it was dark tho, due to us getting up early then having to drive home.
We awoke in he morning to a black night and made our way over to the beach to wait for the sun. It was worth the wait! There were a few clouds in the sky which helped add colour to be sunrise and was a fantastic way to see he new year in! Once he sun was up we quickly packed our stuff and started the 4 hour drive back to Hastings to go to the new year day races!
The races were a great day out, and one we will do again! We started off by finding which area we were allowed to be in, as we has bought premium tickets which got us into the stands, before sneaking our alcohol in as we didn't know we weren't allowed it in there! From the grand stand we had a great view of the action and were situated just on the finishing post. From her we could see our horses finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd, as well as some that did not do so great but overall we walked away in a profit, mine 80c but Amanda $68!!
