We spent most of the day once we'd arrived and parked, reading by the Seine at Le Petit Andelys.
Les Andelys is a regular stopping place for us, all due to our having stayed here at the Hotel de Paris with Chris and Pat on our 1995 biking holiday. We've eaten here at least once a year ever since and every meal has been wonderful. This one was no exception although, because of the time of year, this was the first time we started a meal without oysters. The first time too that we ate in the garden - à la terasse. D started with smoked salmon, I had skate - new to me and a fish I've shied from previously. A delicate flavour, I was surprised to discover, and I enjoyed it. Veal followed by a nougat ice with a strawberry coulis and fresh strawberries for D, duck and then a chocolatey pudding for me, plus of course the cheese board for both of us. Very nice but sorry to hear that France's economy was having its effect on their business and that covers were down on previous years.
A noisy (D tells me) night on the small carpark a short walk from the hotel and breakfast next morning on a layby watching the mist over the Seine gradually lift.
