A pleasant, largish town with plenty of bars and restaurants less than 10 minutes walk from the aire.
And we've done it again.... Each time we visit a French museum we say "never again, what a waste of money, how boring". And so with the Museum des Beaux Artes at Reims. Mind you, it may have been dull and of little interest but, wonder on wonder, they gave an Age Concession!, almost unheard of in France. Heaven knows how much we saved by being old but it only cost us 10€ to be bored. Apart from the main body of the museum being taken up by large badly lit religious paintings there was a small section of Picasso cartoons for a little light relief and an exhibition on Champagne - the drink, that is. Apart from various paintings featuring it, the highlights for me were a three minute B&W clip on a 9" TV of a tipsy Charlie Chaplin argy-bargying in a restaurant and another on a larger screen of a French-dubbed Emma Peel and Steed from The Avengers knocking out an evil gunman with a well-directed cork from a shaken champagne bottle. Hey hum...
23/4. Into town again and a very nice lunch at La Paix Café Restaurant. We nearly didn't enter as we couldn't see through the darkened glass frontage and, unlike other places nearby, nobody was eating au terrasse. Once inside, though, we were in a very attractive large and busy restaurant. We both had the Menu La Paix; six large oysters each followed by confit of duck in a fluffy mash with a green side salad, a glass of Chardonnay for D and a 25cl beer for me. The inclusive price was 19€ each, which we felt was good value. Wifi was available so I updated my apps and 'published' my blog as far as Laon.
