Lovely sunny day and quite a spectacular route over the mountains. We intended stopping at La Roche-sur-Foron but the co-ordinates in the book were wrong and we ended up completely lost in the centre up roads barely the width of the van. It was a nightmare, in places D having to scout ahead whilst I drove the wrong way down one-way streets. Every few minutes we would find ourselves either trapped in a cul-de-sac or faced with a bridge too low for the van to pass under. Finally, with D out of breath from her scouting duties and me totally stressed out from maneuvering, we escaped.
Sadly, there was no chance of stopping in Genève, lovely as it looked. Occasional glimpses were all we got of the grey-green lake.
We are now parked at a 4-van aire in the small town of St.Pierre-en-Faucigny, next to an absolutely huge coach masquerading as a motorhome, complete with air-assisted brakes. Apart from a small park where everything but walking is banned and a bar where a Buckler (sans alcool) beer and an Orangina cost 5€, there is nothing of interest and we will move tomorrow.
