Journey to Machu Picchu (Day 3)
"Coca!" was the first thing I heard this morning again. I barely slept last night because I was starting a bad cold. Congestion, coughing, fever were all keeping me up last night. The warm taste of coca tea felt really good about now.
Today, we were going to start walking into the valley where the temperature was more temperate and the vegetation is jungle-like. I liked this walk a lot more. We got to go through nice bridges, we saw waterfalls...the views were just spectacular!
We stopped at a kiosk (cheap because the snickers were cheap), and I got to try genadine (fresh!). There, I met Natalia again, however, we just said hi. When we left, Edwin showed us coffee plants and how coffee beans are made. We started walking some more and I noticed Natalia walking alone, trying to catch up to me. When I turned towards her, she came up to me with excuse that her friends walk too slow (yeah, right!). We ended talking again all the way to our lunch destination. She ended up having a beer and told me that she couldn't wait to smoke weed later (what a crazy girl!). I could tell she was interested in me, but I wasn't in the mood to flirt and make an effort.
After lunch, we got on a bus to Santa Teresa, our third camping site. When we got there, we had to build our tents, and after we were going to the Hot Springs (a place where there were showers and hot pools). When we got to the Hot Springs, it was not what I expected. It was as beautiful as any theme park in the United States! I forgot to take pictures though...
I did not pay much attention to Natalia (I don't knowhy, she is a beutiful girl that wanted my attention), however, I was sick, and just wanted to get better, and rest, without talking. We got back to eat supper, and it was really cute, because during supper, the local people that lived on the camp site had their kids give us a folkloric show. However, for a moment, I forgot we were in Peru, and nothing comes free. The kids went around after the show, and asked for donations.
Everyone from all the groups sat around a bonefire at night. It was still early to go to the local club so we decided to all get drunk around a fire. he Danish guys, Wes, and myself bought a bottle of Appleton rum and coke (30 Soles!). I noticed Natalia found a new guy that was giving her attention. At 10pm, we grouped everyone to go to the one and only club in Santa Teresa. The club was so ghetto! It had a poll in the middle of the dance floor! The club played everything from rock to reggae to hiphop. It was really funny because Peter was wasted, and pushing everyone, Edwin was drunk trying to hook up with any girl that would be willing, and Natalia was making out with the guy that gave her attention all night. Emma was also there. I was going to dance with her, but there was another guy trying to dance with her (and it did not look like she was liking it!).
I stayed for an hour and decided to go to bed. I was tired, sick and needed to sleep. I got to the tent and Hassan was already sleeping. One more day of trekking until Machu Picchu, and I had to get better!
