I was so gald I went home early last night since I had to gt up at 8am, as usual for my project. I had found out that everyone else got home at 3am, and had skipped their project (I kind of wondered what their true intentions for volunteering in Cuzco were). I was excited today, because after volunteering, we were going to try cuy with Margoth and Kacy.
This morning, I was going to read the faitrytale called "Hampicc" which means in Quetchua: El que Cuida. I was a bit worried if I was going to tell the story properly (especially since I was not going to understand all that I was reading...).
When I read the story, I did stumble on a few words, but in general, it went well. I asked Margoth if my pronunciation was good and she said it was. The kids wanted me to read the story again (they must have understood and liked the story), so I read it again. After story time, we were going to learn about all of the vowells that we learned. The kids had to colour in different areas of a drawing (a=red, o=blue, etc.). Some of the kids were drawing really well (especially Joseba and Elisban).
During recess, while playing with the kids, I couldn't help but think that I was only three days away from leaving them. I was really going to miss everyone. I was really getting attached to all of the kids...I was strongly considering coming back next year.
In the afternoon, there was a new girl from Spain. She was coming to teach the kids some songs. I stayed in back just to supervise since Margoth was in another room preparing the kids' homework. She had a bit of trouble controlling the kids. I had to constantly intervene. I felt that the kids listened to me the most. She tought the kids the song "you put your left hand in, you put your left hand out..."
After I felt that she had more control over the kids, I went to join Margoth to help her out. While we were both working on the homework alone in the classroom, we talked about her family, my family, the fact that I will miss her and the kids, and the possibility of coming back next year. I really get along well with Margoth, and I really feel that I couldn't have asked for a better project...
After school, I was excited for cuy. Margoth and Kacy took us to the best cuy restaurant (called a cuyeria) in the neighbourhood. They wanted Caitlin and I to try cuy a l'orno, but the restaurant was only offering that on Monday. So we tried the other type of cuy (which was fried cuy). By the way, in case I have not meantioned what cuy is, it is guinea pig! With our cuy, we had the real Inka beer, Chicha (not to be confused with Chicha morada). Chicha tastes more like beer, and Chicha morada more like juice.
When I tried the cuy, I was surprised to find out that it actually tasted good, but even more surprised that I was adventurous enough to try it! They served it with potatoes (big surprise!) and rocotto (which was so good!). Caitlin and I decided to pay for the meal, because it was teacher appreciation week, but also because Margoth and Kacy have been so nice to us the past three weeks.
We got back at 4pm, and I decided to update my photo album on my blog the whole afternoon, as well as upload my bungee jump video (finally!). I got back home at around 7:30pm, just in time for supper. That night, a bunch of us decided to go to karaoke first, then go out.
We weere a really big group! When we got to the karaoke place (called Luna Azul), we met up with more people there. We must have been ar least 20 people. I greeted the owner of the place, and the waiter. I was begining to know everyone in Cuzco now. They offered me a free beer (This was happening everywhere I went nowadays...). We were not the only ones in the place this time, there were a bunch of local people. Hence, Hassan and I were only able to sing one song (Aerosmith-I don't wanna miss a thing). About an hour later, we were off to a club.
On our way to the Plaza, I met up with Jimmy, one of the promoters for Mama Africa (one of the most popular clubs on the Plaza). I told him that since we were a big group, it would be great if we had a free bottle of vodka. He told me that it would not be a problem...however, after drinking the bottle in the club, the barman wanted to charge me for it (120 Soles). I made a huge scene. This was ridiculous! Jimmy lied to me, and now I was caught alone (with Morat, because everyone had left when I found out that the bottle wasn't free...). I did not want to leave without paying because I did not want to be left for dead in a back alley thanks to the bouncers so I was able to bargain down the bottle to 60 Soles. Morat and I paid, but we vowed that we were going to ask everyone that drank from the bottle for money, and that we were never going to come back to Mama Africa ever again...
After, we met up with everyone at Inkateam. It was really funny, because everyone from our group (or almost) got paired up and were making out. I was not in the mood to get paired up with anyone from our group. At Inkateam, I found these girls that I met briefly at Mama Africa. They were these Chilian girls! I got one of the girls' email, Laura (for when I go to Chili in two weeks! More info about this to come...).
We decided to switch to the club nextdoor, Mythology. There I met a Cusqueña girl, Carla. She was really shy at first, but opened up really fast and so we started dancing. However, one minute into dancing with her and I lost my balance, and I fell on top of her...how embarassing! What was even worse is that I tried turn it to a light situation, but my Spanish was not good enough, and I had a lot of trouble understanding her. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong with her...so I left to go party back with the Chilian girls. They were really fun, and crazy! I partied with them until 2am (when I realized that I had to get up the next morning at 8am!).
I got home, with Morat (because everyone had already left), thinking to myself: what a fun night!
