Today, the school in which I have my project was closed because it was teacher appreciation day. So Caitlin, Kevin (another Kevin from Ireland that now lives with us), Morat, Kelly, Winnie, Maria, and myself decided to go to the Inka Museum (probably the biggest one in Cuzco) today. Most of the people that were with us had their orientation at 12pm, so they wanted to kill time before.
When we got there, around 10:30am, we found out that it cost 10 Soles (or 3$), for everyone including students! I know, what a rip off (I have gotten so use to cheap prices...)! We all decided to pay it. While walking through the museum, I honestly thought, though, that this was the best museum that I have been to up to now. There were cool clay expositions of how people lived back in the days. Kelly was not feeling well about 10 minutes after we started (altitude sickness) so she decided to go back home.
We continued the tour slowly because there were so many things to see. Maria was our personal translator every time there was an written explanation only in Spanish of the expositions. Noon was around the corner by the time we finished so everyone except Caitlin, Morat, and myself went to their orientation. Caitlin was feeling a bit hungry so we decided to go to a restaurant that was mentioned in my guide book. The restaurant was called "La Tertulia", a cozy small restaurant along one of the smaller streets surrounding the Plaza des Armas. Morat wanted to try alpaca (a South American animal that ressembles a small llama). He offered me a piece to try...it tasted like a mix of steak and liver...disgusting! However, at least I tried it!
After lunch, we had to go back to Maximo Nivel to pick up Sabine, Jessica, and Kevin...we were going to do something crazy this afternoon...we were going to bungee jump from the highest point in South America!
After going around the city trying to find the best price, we found a place that was willing to offer the jump and the DVD (in case any of you wouldn't believe that I jumped) for 67$. I was so excited to jump. Sabine, however, was very nervous...
The taxi ride took around 15 minutes to get to the site. We had to sign a paper over there saying that if we died, it was not the company's responsibility. Kevin was only coming for moral support. We decided that the order in which we were going to jump would be Jessica, me, and Sabine. As my turn approached, I was getting more and more nervous. I will not say anything more about it since I will be uploading the video. All I can say is that the height was 122 meters and the first few seconds of free fall felt amazing! Sabine took a little longer to jump...the reason: she looked down! However, eventually, she jumped!
When we got back home, everyone was excited to know how it felt and wanted to see our DVDs. We then had supper (Sabine stayed over), and after supper Sabine and I decided to go out for dessert and coffee. Today, was really and fun day where I felt that I have accomplished something big. Hopefully, I will have more oppurtunities to do these kind of things in the future...
