Hi guys! I haven't written a blog entry for a very long time because the last two weeks at school have not been exciting(I had some assessments but that's not so interesting for you;) ). I was busy with my friends, but I didn't do anything that is worth to be written in this blog:).
But in the holidays I did probably the best thing of my whole stay in New Zealand: I travelled around the South Island for 10 days! Of course I have to tell you everything about it:
On Easter Sunday at 7:05 in the morning I flew from Tauranga to Auckland and from Auckland to Christchurch. The first flight was the shortest I ever did, it took 35 minutes only! In Christchurch I met the other people from the group, the tour guide and the bus driver. We were 21 students(all about my age, 4 from China, 1 from Japan, 3 from Austria(including me) and 13(!) from Germany)). I spoke German all the time which was not very good for my English but we were too lazy to speak English:P.
We always slept in hostels which were always OK, in rooms for 4 or 6 people(there were only 6 boys - 3 Germans, 2 Chinese and me). Our tour guide bought the breakfast for us and we ate in the hostels, we had to buy the lunch on the way and we had dinner in very nice restaurants. We sat in the bus for about 4 or 5 hours a day which was really boring, but at least the landscape is very beautiful.
On the first day we went from Christchurch to Kaikoura, a tiny village at the East coast were I saw some seals at the beach.
The next day I had to get up early because I wanted to do Whale Watching. It was amazing, you have to see the pictures! After that we went to a place where baby seals played in a river which was so cute! Then we went to Nelson to spend the night there.
On the 3rd day we went kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park. It's a very beautiful national park named after te man who discovered New Zealand- Abel Tasman. But he never set a foot on New Zealand beause the Maori people attacked him and he had to get away as quick as possible. In the afternoon we went to Westport, a little village at the west coast.
The next day we went to the pancake roks in the morning, to Hokitika, the town of the greenstone, at noon and to the Franz-Josef-Glacier in the afternoon. The weather was really bad at the glacier, it rained and it was really cold, but at least we had a Spa pool(a pool with hot water) at the hostel.
On the 5th day we saw the Mirror Lake in the morning(really beautiful - take a look at the picture!) and we did a jet-boat ride which was a bit boring but the scenery was very nice. We spent the night in Wanaka.
The 6th day we went to puzzling world in the morning, a place were you can't believe everything you're seeing. After that we went to the Kawarau Bridge where 3 people(inluding me) did a bungy jump! It was really scary, but I was so gad after I did it! In the afternoon we went to Arrowtown, a really nice little town. In the evening we went to Te Anau where we slept.
The next day we went to the Milford Sound, a world natural heritage. It was amazing! After that we went to Queenstown.
On the 8th day we could do whatever we wanted to do in Queenstown. It's a really nice town with a lot of adventurous things to do. I didn't have too much money left, so I went minigolfing in the morning, which was funny(and cheap:)). In the afternoon I did the shotover jet where you sit on a boat which drives near to rocks in a small river. It was really funny!
On the next day we did biking. It was horrible- It was old, wet, and windy. But at least the landscape was very nice. We spent the night in Tekapo.
On the last day we went through the city of Christchurch by bus. Many buildings are still destroyed from the earthquake in 2011 and there are lots of empty spaces were there used to be buildings. It was sad and desolate...
After that everybody had to fly home and it is quite sad to think that we'll probably never see us again.
I only gave you a brief description because I think that you have to see pictures to imagine how the South Island is. I'll start uplaoding no, I hope you'll like them:) By the way, on the title picture you can see all the students at the Franz-Josef-Glacier

Katharina H. Hey Thomas! :) I am sorry that I have not written you in thr last months. I always read your blogs but I was very busy due to my Matura. I am very proud of you! I am not sure if I was so brave to live a year abroad at your age. I am a bit jealous when I read about your experiences, however I am glad that you have the possibility to see this part of the world. Hoping to see you in the summer! :D
