I've been here for one week now and I really enjoy it! My host family is still very nice (I'll introduce them when Joel, my host brother, is back from his stay in Canada(He spends 6 months in Canada)), the weather is warm and I do lots of exiting things:
On Saturday, for example, Ryan, his friend Fergus and I went to an adventure park. It was very cool and bigger and mre difficult than the adventure parks in Austria.Anyways, I did not find it too hard, but Fergus had to be rescued :D
On Sunday the weather was not very nice, so Ryan, Fergus and me went to a swimming pool. I found it a bit boring, because it was very small compared to the swimming pools in Austria, but we didn't stay there very long so it didn't matter.
On Monday morning my crazy host dad caught an eel(They have a small river with eels in their garden), cooked it and we ate it. It didn't taste really nice but it was funny to watch him :D.(You can see me and the eel at the photo)
On Monday afternoon my host family and I went to Maketu, a small village where most people are Maori. The Maori are the natives in New Zealand and are about 15% of the population there. My host parents told me that the situation of the Maori is quite difficult, because their way to live is different to the european kiwis: they have lots of children, but don't really care about them well; they get a lot of money from the government but some of them spend i just for alcohol (so many of them still live in poverty); etc. But most of them are also friendly, hospitable and know everything about the nature - so, I've seen some Maori but I havn't talked to them yet, but I think their lifes are very different to ours.
However, there were two nice beaches in Maketu (I've uploaded some photos if you want to see them ;)) were we spent the afternoon swimming and relaxing.
Tomorrow it will be my first day at school and I'm nervous because I know nobody - but my host family said I will certainly find friends, because there are lots of international students and nobody knows anybody. By the way, I'm probably the only Austrian student, so I might be interesting for the kiwis :).
I'll write a new blog entry at the weekend to tell you how school in New Zealand is.
