Ahead of us was a ten hour journey and we were not looking forward to it. Leaving Queenstownwe decided to take a detour to Wanaka just to see the beautiful lake one last time. Taking the scenic route, told to us by Sandra, we drove up beautiful mountain roads passing some amazing views of the Remarkables mountain range and through Cordrona. Arriving at Wanaka we had some lunch right next to the lake and a pint from the Kai Whaka Pai cafe, pronounced Kai Phaka Pai. Amusing. Taking in everything we could we drove on up. Picking up a hitchhiker who had just got married we instantly picked up another flat tyre. She ditched us quickly for another ride and we were rescued by a very helpful trucker. Telling him we needed a jack but later finding our own jack in the changing of the tyre process. He didn't seem to happy. Without a goodbye he was gone and we had a spare wheel that would take us all the way up north. Our plan to get to Picton and sleep there overnight then sneak into the Sequioa lodge (where we worked for the 2 weeks) in the morning for a shower was now unachievable. We decided to park up in Kaikoura next to the sea, sleep it off and make way in the morning. After a lovely sleep we drove on up to Picton looking for a 'oh hi boys, your welcome to use our place to chill for a while and freshen up' from the Sequioa manager. . . . And that's exactly what we got :) well without the freshen up part, we just thought we heard that. Enjoying some of the Olympics we booked our ferry across to the North Island. Saying our goodbyes for the second time there we drove down to the ferry taking in our last views of the most beautiful piece of land I think I've ever seen.......... So far.
